ABSTRACT

The Project entitled “Structural Analysis, Design and Estimation of Multi-storied RCC
Residential Building” is a project work carried by a group of six students of 018 batch of
Everest Engineering College, Sanepa, Lalitpur. This Proposal has been developed to meet the
partial fulfillment of Pokhara University, Bachelor in Civil Engineering IV year Course
demand which provides an opportunity to develop analytical and Problem solving skills and
enhance our skill in Structural Design of a Multi-Storied Building as this Project enforces us
to analyze and design each component of the Building in detail.
Present World demand high rise multi-Storied building for different Purposes. Being
beneficial in many aspects, Multistoried buildings come with greater risk of earthquake and
structural risks. Nepal is Situated in seismic Zone V(IS 456: 2000), which is highly prone to
frequent seismic activities, it is more challenging for designers and engineers for design and
construction. So, Structural analysis of building considering different codes is must for
obtaining required level of safety.
The project will commence within the above mentioned criteria and the strength and
serviceability will be checked. If the conditions are okay the final output of the project as
detailed drawings will be obtained else certain changes in the design will be required.

CHAPTER 1
1. Introduction
1.1 Background
We are interested in carrying out a project work on the analysis and design of an earthquake
resistant building, which is one of the topics recommended by the Department of Civil
Engineering for carrying out a project work on, for the fulfillment of the Bachelor in Civil
Engineering program.

Nepal is located in a seismic zone and is prone to earthquakes. We have experienced several
earthquakes in the past, the most recent one being the Gorkha Earthquake of April 25, 2015,
which measured 7.8 on the Richter scale. Proper analysis and safe design of structures,
therefore, carries great importance which is the main reason why we propose to perform a
project on seismic resistant building design.

The design of the building will be based on the detailed plans of a proposed RCC building
provided by the project supervisor. The design shall include the design of following
components.

 Foundation
 Beams
 Columns
 Slabs
 Lateral load resisting systems
 Staircase

1.2 Statement of the Problem

The major problem that may arise to our project may be summarized as below:-
 Nepal lying on the active seismic zone is highly prone to frequent major and
minor earthquakes, so it has become an important task for engineers to consider
earthquake in design of building.
1.3 OBJECTIVES
Following are the objectives of our Project:-
 To prepare a detailed structural analysis report of the building.
 To prepare a detailed design of the building.
 To estimate the Building completion cost.
