Important Safety Information

Most accidents that involve product operation, maintenance and repair are caused by failure to observe
basic safety rules or precautions. An accident can often be avoided by recognizing potentially hazardous
situations before an accident occurs. A person must be alert to potential hazards, including human factors
that can affect safety. This person should also have the necessary training, skills and tools to perform these
functions properly.
Improper operation, lubrication, maintenance or repair of this product can be dangerous and could
result in injury or death.
Do not operate or perform any lubrication, maintenance or repair on this product, until you verify
that you are authorized to perform this work, and have read and understood the operation,
lubrication, maintenance and repair information.
Safety precautions and warnings are provided in this manual and on the product. If these hazard warnings
are not heeded, bodily injury or death could occur to you or to other persons.
The hazards are identified by the “Safety Alert Symbol” and followed by a “Signal Word” such as
“DANGER”, “WARNING” or “CAUTION”. The Safety Alert “WARNING” label is shown below.

The meaning of this safety alert symbol is as follows:

Attention! Become Alert! Your Safety is Involved.
The message that appears under the warning explains the hazard and can be either written or pictorially
presented.
A non-exhaustive list of operations that may cause product damage are identified by “NOTICE” labels on
the product and in this publication.
Caterpillar cannot anticipate every possible circumstance that might involve a potential hazard.
The warnings in this publication and on the product are, therefore, not all inclusive. You must not
use this product in any manner different from that considered by this manual without first
satisfying yourself that you have considered all safety rules and precautions applicable to the
operation of the product in the location of use, including site-specific rules and precautions
applicable to the worksite. If a tool, procedure, work method or operating technique that is not
specifically recommended by Caterpillar is used, you must satisfy yourself that it is safe for you
and for others. You should also ensure that you are authorized to perform this work, and that the
product will not be damaged or become unsafe by the operation, lubrication, maintenance or repair
procedures that you intend to use.
The information, specifications, and illustrations in this publication are on the basis of information that was
available at the time that the publication was written. The specifications, torques, pressures,
measurements, adjustments, illustrations, and other items can change at any time. These changes can
affect the service that is given to the product. Obtain the complete and most current information before you
start any job. Cat dealers have the most current information available.

When replacement parts are required for this

product Caterpillar recommends using Cat re-
placement parts.
Failure to follow this warning may lead to pre-
mature failures, product damage, personal in-
jury or death.

In the United States, the maintenance, replacement, or repair of the emission control devices and
systems may be performed by any repair establishment or individual of the owner's choosing.

Basic Screen
The BCS screen displays the graphical user interface
of the Board Control System (BCS). The Basic
Screen (Illustration 4 ) appears when all electronic
units of the CAMP (Control And Monitoring Platform)
system have started and when all self-tests have
been completed.

Note: At low outside temperatures, the Basic Screen

may appear a few minutes after switching ON the
electrical system (warming up phase).
Starting from the Basic Screen, the user can access
a number of other screens without an input device
such as a keyboard or mouse.
The BCS Screen is designed as a touchscreen. By
slightly touching the active areas, the user can
perform activities such as navigating to another
screen.
Active areas are shown on the screen as three-
dimensional graphics. In the basic configuration
(active areas not activated), the active areas seem to
project out of the user interface. When touched, the
active areas appear to be lowered.

Time and date information on the display computer is
stored in a memory sustained by a back-up battery
(Lithium). This battery has a finite lifetime and must
therefore be replaced at regular intervals. The
lifetime of the battery is approximately 10 years.

Analog In and PWM Out (Mode B)

Illustration 50 g03799056

(12) Sensors with Analog Inputs (14) Engine Test Mode Tab (16) PWM Outputs
(13) Mode Tab (15) Currently Selected Tab

This menu provides information on digital

components connected to the engine controller.
All components are displayed according to the same
principle (left to right):
Terminal identifier of the sensor is connected to the
control cabinet (example: -3KH2).
Name of the sensor (example: PV - Engine water
cooling).
Component Status:

• Light gray: The value displayed results from an

assigned value - additional indication of its status.
• Grayed out: No values are currently assigned -
additional indication that the value is not current.
• Grayed out with red: The current value results
from an assigned value, indicating a sensor
problem - the value does not correspond to the
expected value.
Measured values: Measured current in mA.

Mode Tab (13) – Switches between display mode A

and B.
Engine Test Mode Tab (14) – Both buttons are set
for “Engine Test Mode” . When this test mode is
switched ON, the drive controller sends an “Engine
Running” flag which means that the proportional
valves are supplied with voltage according to the
joystick position (required for production tests).
Currently Selected Tab (15) – Currently Selected
Tab appears blue.
PWM Outputs (16) – All proportional valves (PV) are
supplied with 70 mA to keep the caps of the main
control valves constantly full of oil to get better
response from the machine.

A high value for the sensor indicates fast

movements:
• If the movements are slower than expected, cross-
check the related sensor for the specified value,
the displayed value, and the value measured at
the valve.

• If all values match, check the hydraulic system.
