AFTER OPERATION REPORT

DEFINITION: It is an informative report detailing every action


performed by personnel during police operations.

PURPOSE: Leads to the arrest of any member or some


members of a syndicated crime group.
SAMPLE OF AFTER OPERATION REPORT:
SPOT REPORT

DEFINITION: It refers to an immediate initial investigation or


incident report addressed to higher Headquarters pertaining to
the commission of the crime.

PURPOSE: To provide a snapshot of critical information that


affects ongoing planning and operations.

ELEMENTS: Situation, time, location, and unit or observation.

PROGRESS REPORT

DEFINITION: It is submitted if there is a findings or development in


the case.

PURPOSE: To give clarity on the progress of a project, not to


describe every single aspect about what's currently happening in
the project.

FINAL REPORT
DEFINITION: It is an official record of information relevant to the
investigation the investigator submits to his superior.

CRITERIA OF A GOOD INVESTIGATION REPORT:


• Grammatically correct;
• Abbreviations must be used appropriately and
correctly; and
• Must avoid slang, colloquialism, or unnecessary
technical terms.
REQUISITES OF A GOOD INVESTIGATION REPORT:

• Accuracy- a true representation of the facts.


• Completeness- 5W and 1H must be answered.
• Brevity- avoid irrelevant and unnecessary materials
• Fairness- theories must be consistent and relevant to
the presented facts.
• Form and style- arrangement of materials should be
easy to read.
• Prompt- completed in a timely manner.
CHARACTERISTICS OF A REPORT WRITER:

• Who writes without thinking;


• Who writes and thinks at the same time;
• Who thinks first and write afterwards.

How investigators are rated on report writing?

1. Points to be considered;
2. Errors of form; and
3. Errors of substance.
