Describe the motion of an object by tracing and measuring its change in position (distance
travelled) over a period of time. S5FE-IIIa-I
• Motion is a change in position of objects over time as compared with a reference point. It is also an
act or process of moving in a distance.
• Reference point is a place or object used for comparison to determine if something is in motion. An
object is in motion if it changes position relative to a reference point
• Motion depends on the distance and length of time.
• Distance is phase covered by an object ; amount of space between two places of things. It is a point
or place that is far away from another place.
• Speed is the rate of motion. It does not specify direction.
• Time is a used to quantify , measure or compare the duration of events or the intervals between them,
and even, sequence events.
Activity A:
Direction: Write TRUE if the concept is correct and FALSE if it is wrong.
___1. All objects on Earth are in motion.
___2. Objects in motion always change in position.
___3. A long distance travels needs less time.
___4. A reference point must move along with the object in motion.
___5. Anything that stays stationary can be used as reference point.
