Describe the motion of an object by tracing and measuring its change in position (distance
travelled) over a period of time. S5FE-IIIa-I

• Motion is a change in position of objects over time as compared with a reference point. It is also an
act or process of moving in a distance.
• Reference point is a place or object used for comparison to determine if something is in motion. An
object is in motion if it changes position relative to a reference point
• Motion depends on the distance and length of time.
• Distance is phase covered by an object ; amount of space between two places of things. It is a point
or place that is far away from another place.
• Speed is the rate of motion. It does not specify direction.
• Time is a used to quantify , measure or compare the duration of events or the intervals between them,
and even, sequence events.

Activity A:
Direction: Write TRUE if the concept is correct and FALSE if it is wrong.
___1. All objects on Earth are in motion.
___2. Objects in motion always change in position.
___3. A long distance travels needs less time.
___4. A reference point must move along with the object in motion.
___5. Anything that stays stationary can be used as reference point.

Activity B : Indicate whether the measurement refers to distance, time, or speed.

____________ 1. 80 km/h or kph
____________ 2. 12.5 km
____________ 3. 40 kilometers in 1 hour
____________ 4. 45 second
____________ 5. 50 mph
____________ 6. 97 kilometers per hour
____________ 7. 300 miles
____________ 8. 2.5 hours
____________ 9. 9.8 meters per second
____________ 10. 125 kph
Activity A: Find the time.
1. A car with a speed of 63 km/hr covered a distance of 630 km. How long did it took the car to cover the
distance? ______________________________

the bee to fly the given distance? ______________________________________________
4. A roller coaster move at a speed of 15 m/min and covered a distance of 23 m. How long did the roller
coaster move? ______________________________

2. A bus traveled a distance of 531 km. after running for 7 hours what is the speed of the bus?
_____________________________________________
3. Clark took 50 mins. to reach his school which is 250 meters away from his house. How fast did Clark
travel? ___________________________
4. A cyclist travels 20km in 4hrs. What speed did the cyclist cycle at?________________________

Activity C: Find the distance.

1. A cyclist with a speed of 13km/hr traveled for 8 hours. How did the cyclist go?
____________________________________________
2. A bus traveled for 5 hours with a speed of 50 km/hr. What is the distance covered by the bus?
_____________________________________________
3. A car with a speed of 65 km/hr travelled for 9 hours. How far did it go? _____________________
4. A ball rolling has a speed of 2 m and rolled for 28 seconds? How far did the ball go?
