 ABOUT THE EVENT

TRIATHLON
Triathlon is a multiple-stage competition involving the completion of three continuous disciplines:
swimming, cycling, and running in immediate succession over various distances. The Rwandan Triathlon
Federation (RTF) founded in 2012 and registered under RGB since 2017. Mr. Mbaraga Alexis is the President.

Our mission is to raise the awareness of Rwandan population on a bright and promising future they can have
through Triathlon.

We strive to provide an environment for youth and adults to learn and participate in Triathlon competitions.
The first triathlon competition was organized in Karongi in 2013, and was received by enthusiasm both by
youth which are potential athletes, officials and leaders for future. From that time, Rwanda Triathlon
Federation in collaboration with Rubavu District and its team made it a target to organize the competition on
Kivu Beach.

Since the beginning of 2017, six clubs have emerged:

In Rubavu, in Rwamagana, in Kigali, and Karongi.

Each club hosts event according to their landscape:

- Triathlon in Rubavu, Karongi and Rwamagana!

- Duathlon in Kigali!
We are now hosting 12 event competitions per year, and next year we want to organize more.

We are focusing on making Triathlon a national sport in which all Rwandans will be identifying themselves and
participate.

We also want to make Rwanda an International Triathlon destination which host international races hence
becoming an important sport tourism attraction.

Our upcoming events include:

- The Karongi Triathlon Challenge in Karongi on June 16,2018;

- The Kigali Duathlon Challenge on July 8,2018;
- And The African Triathlon Cup in Rubavu on August 4, 2018.

Before the tournament our regional coaches(Rwanda, Burundi, DRC) will receive their Level 1 Training Course
for 5 days which will allow them to be selected to officiate in international events organized by the African
Triathlon Union (ATU) and later on by the International Triathlon Union (ITU).At the same time our officials will
have a training for 2 days as well.

There will be:

Sprint: - 750m Swim,
- 20km Bike,
- 5km Run.

All throughout the day local artists and DJs will shine and entertain the public, young and old.
There will be lots of entertainment on site all day, including food trucks, beer and cocktail garden, different
fun games and more!

THE EVENT
What : Triathlon African Cup
When : 4th August, 2018
Where : Rubavu District
Why : To promote sport and tourism for development.
Target audience : Local families, adults,teenagers,children and Congolese people
from Goma enjoying getting out and having fun.
Media : Local and International newspapers and TVs, social media
and online calendars.
Summary of Event : An International competition featuring sport, tourism and
Leisure.

WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

This is our first time to host an International competition and we want to do it bigger and better. We want to
make our country the best Triathlon spot in the continent. So we want to combine sport and tourism through
this competition. We want to promote the VISIT RWANDA campaign through this competition. There is event
insurance, rentals, and even licenses needed before getting off the ground!
We are looking for partners in the country willing to sponsor our event to offset these costs!
