RESEARCH EXPERIENCE

Rutgers University Sep 2021 - present

Thesis - Computational Modeling and Physics-Informed Machine Learning (PIML) of Metal Additive Manufacturing
• Development of a physics-based model for the scanning of powder layer by laser heat source in Selective Laser
Melting (SLM) process
• Predict the same melt pool dynamics by using the PIML model

Indian Institute Technology (IIT), Kanpur Dec 2015 - Jan 2018

Masters’ Thesis - A Numerical Study on the evolution of Coupled Thermal Field and Residual Stresses in Selective
Laser Melting of Ti6Al4V
• Evolution of thermal stress during heating and cooling stages for scanning of powder layer by the laser heat
source in Selective Laser Melting (SLM) process was studied
• A fully coupled thermo-mechanical model was developed by using commercial FEM software COMSOL
Multiphysics® with the incorporation of complex physics like Marangoni convection, volume reduction in
porous powder, and natural convection in the melt pool by developing user-defined sub-routines
• The thermal model which is the main input to the structural model was validated with the literature data
• After validation, the dependence of the magnitude of residual stress on important process parameters was also
studied

Punjab Technical University July 2011-May 2015

Undergraduate Thesis - Design and Analysis of Optimum Riser for Sand Casting to Increase Casting Yield
• A 2D model of Aluminum casting is developed using ANSYS 12 software to find the location of hot spot
• Optimal dimension of the riser for that casting was calculated and the obtained results were validated
experimentally
• Studied the change in the dimensions of the riser by using an insulated sleeve.
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur Jan 2018 –Mar 2018

Designation – Project Associate
• worked on track-scale simulations of SLM process to investigate development and mitigation of thermal stress
• The work investigates the evolution of thermal stresses, dependence of residual stress on important process
parameters and ways to minimize them by adopting the appropriate set of the parameters

Caterpillar Inc. July 2018 – July 2021

Designation – Senior Associate Engineer
Role 1 – Studied the various characterization techniques during the six-month training in Advanced Materials
Technology (AMT) lab
• Hands-on experience with various characterization techniques to determine physical properties and the micro-
structure like tensile strength, hardness, chemical composition, and grain structure for the failed components.

Role 2 – Evaluate the structural integrity of the engine mounted components by performing the dynamic vibration analysis
• Evaluate the structural integrity of the fuel lines, water lines, and other engine-mounted components by performing
Frequency response and Time response analysis.
• The life of bolts under assembly stress is predicted by the analysis named Bolted Joint Analysis (BJA)
• Worked on automation of the repetitive pre-processing work by developing the scripts in python

Role 3 – Study the effect of different geometric parameters on contact stress between cam and roller of inlet and exhaust
valve train of various engines and optimize the geometric dimensions of the rocker arm using Creo-simulate tool
• Studied the effect of Cam profile, roller width, rocker arm ratio, rocker arm stiffness, and spring pre-tension on the
contact stress between roller and cam to avoid the expensive heat treatment of cam
• This is done by using a 1D simulation tool. GT-suite
• Optimization of the mass of the rocker arm for the given stiffness range of the material with the space constraint in
the engine assembly by using the Creo simulate tool
