Universidad de Chile, Faculty of Law

Dear members of the International Relations Direction:

Through the current letter, I am addressing you to express my desire and profound
interest in the Linkage Program between the Faculty of Law of the Universidad de
Chile and Yale Law School. It is well known that both of these institutions are part
of the best academic institutions in their respective countries. The excellence of
their teachers, and the impact that their alumni has had in the political and legal
system is immense. Just like our University, Yale is known for having contributed
with some of the leaders of its country, including former Presidents of the Republic,
and Supreme Court Justices. Besides these important authorities, Yale has had in
its academic body some of the most important and influential jurists in the history of
the U.S. The parallels between both of these institutions is evident. The approach
that Yale Law School has on the Law has also influenced our Faculty, and the fact
that our current Dean studied there is a demonstration of that. The Linkage
Program opens a huge opportunity for us, Chilean students, to learn how the study
of Law is made in one of the most prestigious Schools in the world. Yale stands for
the values on which the U.S., and its democratic and republican system, was built
on. Just like our Faculty, the role that Yale Law School has played throughout the
history of its nation is astounding. The reasons that made me enter our Faculty, are
the same that impels me to applicate for one of the spots of the Linkage Program.
There aren’t opportunities like this every day, and the thought of being in one of the
most important Law Schools in the world thrills me. All the knowledge and
experiences that I’ll acquire, will be put in practice through the remainder of my
student years, and beyond that. I’ll assure you that through the course of this
exchange, hard work and dedication will be my guiding lights, because the chance
that this Program gives us, is invaluable. The prospect of sharing my experiences,
and that of our country, with Americans students and fellows, and compare with
them our differences and similarities, is also, a driving force in my desire to be
chosen for the Linkage Program. I’ll also guarantee a home to receive a Yale
student from May 13th to the 21st. With great vigor and humility, I apply for one of
the spots of the Linkage Program. I sincerely hope that you take my application in
consideration.

Greetings.

Camilo Garrido, 4th year student.
