Thank God we give all praise and gratitude to God Almighty for His extraordinary
blessings and graces so that he has bestowed the ability to every human being in carrying out
their respective duties and responsibilities. We have prepared this paper just in time, which
discusses “Brochure". This paper focuses on discussing how to use the brochure in a business
or other purposes.
In making this paper, we are aware that there are still many shortcomings, both in the
preparation, preparation and presentation of the material due to the limitations of each in
compiling the material. And also we don't forget to thank the Lecturer of the Subjects, Sir.
Riswan Zega, M.Hum., who has entrusted us to discuss this material and who has guided and
directed us to think optimistically. And also to the writer's parents who have supported and
taught us until we are where we are today.
Hopefully this paper can be useful for all of us and can add insight and the most
important resources to support and train us all. That is all and thank you.

CHAPTER II
DISCUSSION

A. Definition of Brochure
Brochure is a translation of a foreign term, namely Brochure, which is one of The
Printed Words which is an external information medium in the form of printed writing.
Brochure is a small book that contains information about a thing or activity. As one of the
external information media in conveying messages or information, this brochure certainly
has several advantages in reaching many people in general, and in this case customers in
particular. Because with some characteristics in it, external media can capture more of the
stimuli intended by the communicant, because basically improving the media increases
many human senses, the more effective the media is..
According to expert, there are some explanation about what is brochure, namely:
1. According to the definition put forward by Cutlip, Center, and Broom in his book
Effective Public Relations (1994: 263-273), stated that: A brochure is a short
publication consisting of several pages containing a brief description of an
organization or company for public knowledge. .
2. According to Andi Prastowo (2012:38) brochure is a written information material
about a problem that is arranged systematically. Brochures are also defined as printed
leaflets containing brief and complete information.
3. Simamora (Ruth Stefanie, 2013:4), explained that brochures are generally intended to
create knowledge. The power of brochures can be seen in the appearance or layout,
size, and frequency.
4. Abdul Majid (2013:177) who explained that brochures can be used as interesting
learning resources, because of their attractive and practical forms. In addition, the
illustrations on the brochures can also increase students' interest in learning to use
learning resources in the form of brochures. The use of picture illustrations and brief
explanations in brochures makes the material presented easier to understand by
students. Materials that are easily understood and learned by students through learning
resources in the form of brochures will make the learning process more interesting.
Based on the explanation above, it can be concluded that Brochure is a single set
of paper to pass the information about something to give information, to promote, or to
advertise a product and/or services of acompany or institution to a target audience.
Brochures are learning resources made from print in which there are pictures or writing
containing brief explanations of certain information. Brochures can be used as an

2
interesting learning resource in classroom learning, because of its simple and practical
form, in addition to the presence of illustrations in a brochure will attract students' interest
to use it.

B. The Characteristics of Good Brochure

Many people have the misperception that brochures are obsolete thanks to the
continually advancing technology we have today. This is not the case. Brochures play a
vital part of getting your story out there. Below, there are five characteristics could be
described as what good brochures do.
1. They introduce.
Chances are your reader has never heard of you, or your company, or your
products or services, or how any of this stands out from your competitors. A well-
written brochure can address these issues. When your reader finishes with your
brochure, he will know what you’re all about.
2. They inform.
Many years ago, Shell prepared a series of booklets that addressed car care
issues—how often to change your oil, how to check the treads on your tires, how to
get better gas mileage, and so on. The booklets did not overtly advertise Shell, but
they helped establish the company as a helpful resource for motorists who wanted to
get better performance from their automobiles.
Brochures can and do serve the same purpose. Your reader has an issue. A
well-written brochure can help your reader solve the problem. It may or may not
overtly advertise your products and services, but it can help put your company in a
better position for the reader’s future business.
3. They persuade.
Like a sales pitch, brochures have a call to action—say what you want the
reader to do. Perhaps you want the reader to complete and return the form for a free
booklet or report. Perhaps you want the reader to attend your seminar, visit your web
site, try your product or service, or visit your store.
4. They are complete.
Often you have much more information about a topic than you could put in a
standard, tri-fold brochure. That’s fine. Summarize your main points and then ask the
reader to contact your company for more information about how to do something.
Such brochures qualify your prospects, which makes for a helpful start in the sales
process.

3
5. They are consistent.
Brochures presuming you have a set of them must be consistent in tone and
basic message. Brochures play a part of your overall communications strategy.
Regardless of how you are reaching out to your readers, it’s important that the tone
and content of your message are consistent. It shouldn’t matter whether your reader is
visiting your web site, watching or listening to your messages, or reading your
documentation—the reader should be reading, seeing, and hearing the same message.
Brochures fit into this overall strategy as well.

C. The Advantages and Disadvantages of Brochure

The following are some of the advantages and disadvantages of brochures,
consisting of:
1. Advantages of Brochure
a. The messages conveyed can reach a large number of audiences, according to the
number of brochures printed and distributed to the public.
b. If there is an opportunity, the brochure distributor has enough time to explain the
material in the brochure in detail to the public.
c. Audiences have the opportunity to ask questions and get direct answers regarding
all matters relating to the contents of the brochure from the brochure distributor.
d. The promoter, in this case the brochure distributor, can see firsthand the emotional
(psychological) condition of the audience, so that if there is an opportunity the
promoter can add or change the way of conveying the message in an instant.
e. Promoters (brochure distributors) can easily get potential audiences (prospective
consumers).

2. Disadvantages of Brochure
a. In its distribution, it is very dependent on the number of disseminators, so it is
often only able to touch a few audiences at a time.
b. If there is an opportunity to add or change the way the message is conveyed, the
process is very dependent on the ability of the publisher to strengthen the
persuasion and convey the information contained in the brochure.
c. Not all audiences received further explanation from the brochure distributor.

4
D. The Generic Structure of Brochure
A brochure is a professional, effective and inexpensive way to provide information
to your target audience. They are designed for people to pick up. Brochures also can
describe an program or class that is being offered. Below, there is a structure to making a
brochure, such as:
