Eligibility Criteria for Certification of


Lean Six Sigma
MASTER BLACK BELT

a) Certification as Trained Master Black Belt

™ Should be a certified trained Black Belt from Anexas or any other recognized
organization
™ Should attend all 4 days of Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt training workshop
™ Should conduct 4 hours of training during any 2 days of Green Belt or Black Belt (See
examination passing criteria)

TOTAL NUMBER OF DAYS NEEDED = 6 DAYS

b) Examination Passing Criteria

™ There are continuous assessment exercises conducted during every module.


Participants should participate actively in these activities and exercises.
™ Final exam is held on the 4th day.
™ Each participant has to secure a minimum of 70% to pass the exam.

Participants who have attended all the days of training and passed the exam will
be awarded Trained Master Black Belt certification.

c) Full certification as Master Black Belt

™ Should complete either 1 ‘Lean Six Sigma Black Belt Project’ or 2 Green Belt
projects.
™ Should guide 2 Green Belt or 1 Lean Six sigma Project within 1 year of
completion of training. The time limit can be extended under exceptional
circumstances. Definitions:

ƒ Green Belt Project- One Lean Six Sigma Project in a process


within a function/department in an organization.

ƒ Black Belt Project- One six sigma project spanning across 2 or more
functions with cross-functional teams. This project can be an
extension of the first project with a wider scope.

™ Should submit the projects for evaluation to Anexas Denmark in the


prescribed template.

™ Should submit the report on evaluated projects which he/she has guided.

™ Should present the guided projects in one of the workshops or on any other
scheduled day, which will be evaluated on the following criteria :

a) Nature of the Project


b) Application of the Lean and/or Six Sigma tools
c) Conclusions made using the tools
d) Type of process improvement actions implemented
e) Financial benefits and savings realized
f) Intangible benefits
g) Learning and sharing from the project

Each participant who has successfully met the criteria for training, projects and exams
will be certified as ‘Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt’ and the certificate will mention
the names of the projects completed/guided by the participant.

d) Key Organizational requirements for successful Lean Six Sigma Implementation


(Applicable to in-house programs)

™ Top Management commitment is key for the successful completion of all Lean Six
Sigma projects. Top Management should conduct reviews on the progress of the
project with the Master Black Belt (person who is attending the training modules)
every week

™ The Master Black Belt should select his team based on the process knowledge
domain required and should conduct review with his team every 3-4 days

™ The selected participants should be released from their ‘daily work routine’ for
adequate time during the 4-6 month period for successful implementation of the
methodology.

e) Key roles and skill sets for the Master Black Belt:-

™ Black Belt aspirant should be preferably working in an organization or should have


worked in an organization in the past with minimum 4 years of work experience

™ He should be able to fulfill following roles :


a. Trainer : Master Black Belts teach the entire organization about
methodology, approach, and correct usage of techniques.
b. Guide : Green Belts and Black Belts need guidance in their Six Sigma
journey. Senior Management needs inputs on how Six Sigma meets strategic
objectives.
c. Project leader : MBBs need to lead large or complex projects themselves.
d. Deployment Champions : MBBs help create Six Sigma infrastructure within
the company and provide recommendations for curriculum, certification
criteria, belts structure, integration of Lean & Six Sigma with each other and
with other approaches.

c. Ability to think through the possible causes of a problem
d. In-depth Knowledge of the processes of his organization
e. Analytical skills for elimination of causes
f. Strong desire to learn on a continuous basis
g. Should be a good leader who can lead the project and take it to a logical
conclusion
h. Good communication skills
i. Good inter-personal skills to interact with the Process owners and other
functional heads
j. Able to work with discipline in the application of the various tools
k. Able to lead the team in the implementation of the various solutions
obtained and selected during the application of tools
l. Open-minded
