CHAPTER 1

THE PROBLEM

INTRODUCTION

The Blood Pressure Reader with Thermal Printer is a machine that shows the result on the
screen and prints out the result of blood pressure through thermal printing — by means of heat.
The print out also includes the time and date of when the blood pressure reading occurs.

Originally, Blood Pressure Monitors (Sphygmomanometer) doesn’t come together with a

device that automatically writes down the measured pressure. There are instances that results
after the test might be easily forgotten because of the combination of numbers, another factor
why it is easily forgotten is the noise in the surrounding which causes the patients, generally, to
get distracted and forget what the nurse or doctor told them about the result of the test. A
common mental condition known to hinder memory encoding is mind wandering, which is
defined as concentrating attention toward task-unrelated thoughts (Blondé et al., 2021).

To resolve this problem, we created a Blood Pressure Reader with Thermal Printer that has
its own power supply to regulate power for smoother output of voltage. Power banks can be an
alternative portable charger for the device during power outage. A feature added in this
innovation is the time and date of the test, to be printed out on the thermal paper. Every single
material is inexpensive; two of the most important things utilized during the test are Thermal
paper — for thermal printing and Power — to supply power for the blood pressure monitor. This
innovation will be a great help for the patients, also to the health care team, to deliver a printed
result right after each blood pressure reading.

The importance of this study in the major subject class is to contribute unique innovation
for future researchers to discover and might as well fill in the gaps that may be present in this
study; this machine can be one of the future project demonstrations as well.

This study will give importance to Negros Oriental State University (NORSU), to
encourage the students, especially Nursing Students, to try something new in their field despite
having few differences with technology majored subjects.

The Major subject Instructors will find this innovation a good solution to the problem
regarding the exact information delivery of the test results of blood pressure reading and a
contribution to the technology industry as well.

The people in Negros Oriental would consider Blood Pressure Reader with Thermal Printer
as a machine that will help lessen the time consuming process of blood pressure monitoring and
result distribution, especially to the patients such as children, PWD’s, and senior citizens.

The Researchers of this study created this research paper to have advance knowledge and
reveal the important information to the public, along with the findings, conclusions, and
recommendations of the innovation.

Statement of the Problem

This study generally aims to find out the feasibility of the creation of Blood Pressure
Reader with Thermal Printer and its effectiveness and accuracy in the actual conduct of

Specifically, the study sought to answer the following:

1. What is a Blood Pressure Reader with Thermal Printer?

2. Why do we need a Blood Pressure Reader with Thermal Printer?

3. How much will it cost to buy a Blood Pressure Reader with Thermal Printer?

4. How convenient is to buy a Blood Pressure Reader with Thermal Printer?

5. What are the advantages of a Blood Pressure Reader with Thermal Printer?

by their doctor or healthcare provider.
d) During post-operative care: After a surgical procedure, a blood pressure reader with a
thermal printer may be used to monitor a patient's blood pressure and ensure they are
recovering properly.

3. To investigate the effectiveness and efficiency of the thermal printer in producing clear and
readable printouts of the blood pressure readings.

4. To determine the durability and longevity of the device, including factors such as battery life
and resistance to wear and tear.

5. To compare the performance of the blood pressure reader with thermal printer to other similar
