There is a commonly-held belief that government and well-developed businesses

should provide financial support for scientific research instead of the arts.
However, I am in favour of the ideas that there should be investment in the arts.
This following essay will discuss two views and explain my perspective.

On the one hand, many people argue that funding in the arts is wasteful; therefore,
government and large companies should spend money on science fields because of
some benefits it brings about. First of all, the life quality will much improved
thanks to the advanced science. Once more scientific projects are focused on,
scientists are encouraged to make new discoveries through hundreds of
experiments, which will soon be applied to life to assist residents. For example,
Thomas Edison, a famous scientist, conducted a great deal of research and
successfully invented incandescent bulbs, which was then an indispensable
household appliance. Moreover, the sponsorship in science fields plays a vital role
in progressing a nation. It is apparent that science is linked with the development
of a country, particularly contributing to various categories such as medicine,
technology, engineering. For instance, during the Covid 19 epidemic, Vietnamese
scientists conducted a variety of scientific research and finally discovered vaccines
to fight against the virus, which not only contributes to worldwide medicine field
but also brings about the economic recovery.

On the other hand, I am more convinced with the idea that there should be
sponsorship in the arts as it has many positive points. Firstly, it helps enrich the
spiritual life of inhabitants because life is now more developing than it was in the
past and requires both material and spiritual values. In fact, people nowadays often
prefer enjoying the arts, immersing themselves in masterpieces and beautiful
songs, which is known as the rights they are entitled. Secondly, countries and big
companies investing in the arts may widen the comprehension of tourists about
culture and history. The arts reflect the culture of a nation and each tourist
travelling to a country will not look at either skyscrapers or progressed
transportation but the beauty of culture and history. For example, foreigners often
praise Dong Ho paintings for colorful and lively lines, and those paintings let them
comprehend intensively about Vietnamese distinct history and culture. In addition,
spending an amount of money in the arts helps strengthen the development of a
nation because the arts also play an important role as an industry of the country.
For instance, in the past twenty years, the appearance of many popular K-pop idols
has been considered as a strong emerging wave and become one of the main
industries of Korea with huge profits.

In conclusion, while it is believed that a nation and large businesses should invest
in scientific research instead of wasting money on the arts, I do support the ideas
that there should be sponsorship in the arts.
