Some people think that the government is wasting money on the arts and

that this money could be better spent elsewhere.

To what extent do you agree with this view?

It is argued by some that the funds are being wasted on the arts rather than
spending on other crucial and more beneficial sectors by the government,
however, I disagree that public money is being squandered by investing in arts
and think that it is beneficial as it helps to preserve the cultural heritage of a
region and, to ameliorate health conditions of the society. This essay will
further discuss my disagreement in detail with relevant example followed by a
conclusion.

Firstly, every culture is associated with art. In other words, art facilitates the
preservation of culture in the form of music, paintings, and movies. With the
help of arts, we are able to learn about the past culture and heritage of
societies and preserve it for future generation. Since a lot of things in a country
stay preserved in the form of art, which otherwise cannot be retained by any
other means, government has to invest in order to protect them. For
example, Canada, Australia and many more other countries have many public
aided art museums all over the country that exhibit ancient arts.

Secondly, art is essential for emotional, and mental wellbeing. Art forms such
as cinemas, exhibitions, and crafts are considered to be a great form of
entertainment by majority of the population and these leisure activities will
help to alleviate their stress levels. Consequently, individuals will be able to
lead a balanced life. For instance, music is increasingly used by many to deal
with depression and other day-to-day tensions. Furthermore, encouragement
for arts from government improves the livelihood of thousands of people who
base their career on creativity.

To conclude, since arts play an important role in human life, the government
needs to make sure that arts are financed properly in a variety of forms so that
heritage can be preserved for coming generations and also for those who are
making living out of it.
