In today's modern society, government investment in various societies is a controversial issue at

all levels of society. Since money is limited, the budget should be executed carefully. Some people
think the government would be better off spending money on improving recreational facilities.
However, personally, the government should invest in art museums and music performances. The
obvious reasons are as follows.

One of the primary causes is that the art boosts economic increasing. When the government
invests in art and music programs, people have more chances to join in art activities. During the
participation of the art projects, they can have a completely relaxation. They can go to museums to
enjoy paintings, go to opera house to appreciate theatre and go to a concert to listen a musical
performance, leading to a high-quality rest after work. After these events, they can regain energy
and work more efficiently. For these reasons, the efficiency in production of the whole labor force
can be raised up. Overtime, the economy will obtain significant improvement. However, if the
government spends money on improving recreational facilities, people will waste lots of energy to
do sports. Since people’s vigor is limited, they cannot finish their work efficiently, which means
the development of economy will slow down. For example, during the National Day holiday, the
government organized a Folk Art exhibition. There were all kinds of art works at the fair,
including paintings, sculptures and even short films. These works are very imaginative and can
help people to get away from the boring work. According to the research, in the week after that, 80
percent of the people who went to the show were more productive and more active at work, so that
created a good economic benefit.

What is also worth noticing is that government spending money to support art museums and music
performances can improve public diathesis of aesthetic. Government investment in the arts means
greater access to the arts, such as specialist courses, lectures, exhibitions and workshops.
Therefore, the public art knowledge can be enriched, aesthetic awareness and appreciation level
will be improved. For example, I visited the opera held by the government in the summer
vacation. In the opera, I learned a lot of knowledge about the drama, such as the types of roles, the
plot arrangement of the drama and so on. However, if the government put money into sports, it
will be difficult for people to learn some theoretical knowledge from it. On the contrary, people
may get hurt, which is disadvantageous for them.

Admittedly, some fake artists cheat the government for financial support. The financial support of
the government in art will become the capital for them to be lazy and waste their life. Investment
in art will increase the economic burden on the country. Although I agree that there may be couple
of disadvantages to support art museums and music performances, I fell that the advantages are
more obvious.

In conclusion, by taking account all the above reasons and many others, I strongly believe that
government should invest money on the art museums and music performances rather than
recreational facilities. Not only does the art bring economic growth, but it also leads to
improvement the knowledge of society.
