Elderly people are nowadays being sent to old aged homes rather than being

looked after by family in homes. Do the advantages of old aged homes

outweigh the disadvantages?

These days Aged members of the family are not being cared from their
children and grandchildren in homes, instead, they are sent to care centres.
This essays agrees that certainly disadvantages of sending old people to
retirement facilities outweigh the advantages. Firstly, this essay discuss
drawbacks of this view and then will argue why the positives hold little
significance.
First and foremost, the main negative aspect of sending elderly parents to
retirement homes is that they can feel abandoned by their offspring’s. Because
of the feeling of isolation, health of old parents can deteriorate their health,
which can result in many debilitating illness such as mental trauma and hyper
tension.
Another major problem is that every human being wants to be loved and love
back. But, when they are sent to these kind of old aged centres they fall out of
love and will be utterly distressed. After all, they have sacrificed their entire life
to give a comfortable life for the future generations of the family. So, it is
responsibility of all the kids to take care of their parents when they grow older.
For example, in a country like India, number of people residing in homes for
elderly is significantly increasing as their children are leaving them on roads
negligently without even providing them basic needs like food and shelter.
On the other hand, the only positive aspect that these shelters can bring is the
social interaction they provide for the aged as they get to meet and spend time
with other individuals of the same age group. Consequently, they forget about
their worries and can at least lead a considerably decent life. For Instance,
many social organizations are conducting many community gatherings and
activities for the aged people to help them to overcome the feeling that they
are not alone.

In conclusion, although old aged homes can facilitate senior people and give
them basic care they need, it can never be replace the joy that can be brought
when they are taken care by their family members. So, demerits will definitely
outweigh the merits it can bring by sending them to old aged shelters.
