“The elderly should live in nursing homes.” Give your opinion.

The world as we speak is becoming more fast-paced than ever. These changes require the
young to juggle between their professional work and personal life. The elderly who depend to
their kin often did not receive the proper care from the one responsible to them instead they
were sent to the nursing homes where nurses and doctors act as their caretaker, In my opinion,
the elderly should not live in nursing homes for three reasons.

First and foremost, placing the elderly in the nursing homes will cause the children to disregard
the most significant duty of a son or daughter which is to take care of their parents when they
get old or sick. It can be considered as the sons and daughter obligation’ to return the favour
to their parents after all they had done for their children when they were young. The elderly
also did not have anyone besides their family to attend to their needs and due to the fact that
their children have spent a lifetime with their parents, surely the children can manage what is
needed for them. For instance, if the elderly were put in the nursing home without any proper
care in terms of their medication or the appropriate treatment, this will affect their wellbeing
because they did not receive the care from someone who understands their nature and
behaviour.

Secondly, the action of placing parents in the nursing home will eradicate the sense of family
in one’s perspective. Looking from the elderly’ point of view, they might feel abandoned by
their own blood which is not a great sentiment to be having at old age. The aged will have the
perception that they are not worthy of their children’ love and guardianship. This will further
develop into negative psychological and emotional issues which are linked with their physical
health. For example, the elderly left in the nursing homes without any visit from their children
might feel isolated and estranged because they are not familiar with the nurses or doctor.
Some of them will act up by not eating or socialize with anyone due to the sorrow of being left
behind.

Last but not least, taking care of our own parents should not be an issue as there is maid
service available. This service is established particularly to attend to the elderly in their own
home. The aid help to ease the burden of the children who are preoccupied with their work
and family. Therefore, the private nurses will take matters into their hand by feeding them and
making sure the elderly consume their medications or any other services that they might need.
This way, the children can go about with their affair while not neglecting the needs of their
parents.
To conclude, the elderly should not be placed in the nursing homes as they should be attended
to with all the love and care from someone familiar to them. At old age, parents would want to
spend it with their loved ones and to see every step of the way before the time for them to do
so ended. Thus, the children should do what is necessary to make sure their parents are
comfortable and happy in their own home with their family.
