29. Some people think the cheap air flight gives ordinary people more freedom.

However, others think the cheap air flight should be banned because it pollutes the
air and brings many other problems. Discuss both views and give your opinion.

View 1:
 Makes flights more affordable: the average citizens buy tickets more easily=> more
people can buy air flights => higher profits in comparison to that of expensive tickets.
ex:  For instance, in the International Baccalaureate Diploma program, core subjects
are split into Standard Level and Higher Level classes. Students who are in the Higher
Level classes take lessons featuring more advanced material and topics, whereas those
in Standard Level classes face less demanding topics and assignments. => result in a
well-paced curriculum.
 Allow students to learn at their own pace; this separation helps students develop their
own strength without waiting for other students, who are struggling to understand the
lesson. In other words, separating classes will enable the stronger ones to proceed
more rapidly while the weaker ones can take time to learn.

View 2:
 Mixed-ability classes would provide a more holistic learning environment. This
education technique would allow peer learning where students can exchange
knowledge and skills with one another. ex: student well-versed in a subject can help
their weaker counterpart while simultaneously gaining some practical knowledge for
themselves => a more holistic and friendly learning environment
 A catalyst for soft skills development. Resembling the realistic, a mixed-ability class
consists of students of several abilities => mixed-ability classes have a sense of
diversity and unique dynamic => requires more skills developed among students to
study together harmoniously
ex: through class activities and projects, students would hone several skills such as
leadership, collaboration and communication skills. Besides, they would have a sense of
tolerance and empathy with lower-level students
=>  facilitate them in the transition into the work industry.

30. The increase in the production of consumer goods results in damage to the natural
environment. What is the cause of this? What can be done to solve this problem?
Body 1: Increased production of consumer goods is due to there being more industrial
facilities built => Cause more pollutants to be discharged.
   In the current industrialized world where fees are constantly rising, many college
students face financial hardships while trying to make ends meet. ex: College fees in
the United States can cost up to $50,000 not to mention their living expenses which
can place a huge burden on underprivileged students’family => compel students to
work part-time right after admission. Although some schools and banks now grant
educational loans to facilitate students’ learning, the total amount of debt they incur
can be immense => propelling them to start working early to gradually reduce that
debt. Consequently, the toil of balancing both factors greatly pressurizes the students.

Body 2: Gaining work experience

recent years have seen a remarkable increase in the number of bachelor’s degree holders =>
companies now prioritize candidates with related work experience. Unfortunately, working
time at the moment is fixed at a particular time => along with the demanding environment, it
is hard for students to both excel working and studying at once => puting students at great
pressure.

Body 3: Solution
 Schools should offer scholarships to students, both merit-based and background-based
=> allow worthy students to focus on their studies bereft of other worries finance .
 Companies and organizations should allow working at a flexible schedule for students
=> to allow students to work outside of their studying hours => allow them to manage
both their studies and earn a living without impacting their quality of learning and
mental well-being.

32. Some universities offer online courses as an alternative to classes delivered on

campus. Do you think this is a positive or negative development?

33. Some students work while studying. This often results in lacking time for education
and constant feeling under pressure. What do you think are the causes of this? What
solutions can you suggest?

35. Some people believe that exams are an inappropriate way of measuring students’
performance and should be replaced by continuous assessment. Do you agree or
disagree with this view?
View 1:
 Make teaching easier for teachers; grouping students would require teachers to
prepare materials at a particular level => prevent them from the hard work of catering
for all levels at the same time. ex:  For instance, in the International Baccalaureate
Diploma program, core subjects are split into Standard Level and Higher Level
classes. Students who are in the Higher Level classes take lessons featuring more
advanced material and topics, whereas those in Standard Level classes face less
demanding topics and assignments. => result in a well-paced curriculum.

36. Some people believe that children’s leisure activities must be educational, otherwise,
they are a complete waste of time. Do you agree or disagree? Give reasons for your
answer and include any relevant examples from your experience
 [TOTALLY DISAGREE]
Body 1:
 Some people believe that truly leisure activities are extravagant; they believe learning
is the most important thing at a young age to turn children into well-rounded
individuals => tend to utilize leisure time for educational purposes => make them
oscillate knowledge and move with the times. Ex: make children draw or do puzzles
or brain-training exercising to be more creative and enhance skills >< not effective =>
make children exhausted and impossible for the brain to be active throughout the day
Body 2: Recreational activities can help children develop motor and cognitive skills through
games and sports they play
 Children can be taught by playing, particularly when they are very young and are still
improving important cognitive and motor skills. Ex: some sports activities like soccer,
baseball, basketball and so on not only teach them skills but also collaboration and
empathy towards others. => thinking that children can only study through serious
activities is misguided
Body 3: Children ought to be allowed to spend quality time in authentic recreational activities
which in turn stimulates the children’s interest and joy in learning
 Studying continuously can make students tired => break between study periods or
after school hours can help rejuvenate them and ultimately result in the better study
attitude.
 Lack of entertainment can affect students’ development, esp their mental health as
several illnesses such as depression, anxiety, or ADHD may arise

[PARTLY AGREE]
Body 1:

 Exams may not truly reflect one’s ability. Students may have some health problems
that may affect their attention and performance on the testing date. Moreover, some
students just try to cram and memorize everything without trying to understand the
material => a quick way to obtain a high score in a short time but not an effective way
to study
 Cheating is commonplace, students nowadays are under heavy pressure => try every
method just to get high grades, including using smartphones, tissues, fingernails,
mirror glasses to hide their notes.

Body 2: Continuous assessment can measure students’ abilities and relieve the stress of exam
pressure.

 There might be some external factors that directly affect students’ performance on a
specific date => continuous assessment can test students based on their progress over
a period. Ex: esp applies to some subjects such as design and technology, which are
more creative and less academic.
 This can avoid underperformance in tests due to exam pressure. Knowing that the test
is not the definitive benchmark of their progress will make students more relaxed and
perform better in continuous assessment

Body 3:
However, there are some benefits to formal education.
 Exams are a fair system as every individual is granted equal opportunities to sit in an
exam => those with hardworking are more likely to be rewarded. In addition, it is also
difficult to cheat if the exam is properly invigilated. Moreover, exams provide a clear
and objective measure of what students have learned, whereas continuous assessment
is probably far more subjective => can assess students in an overall view.
 Any form of testing is born to the benefit of students => the way instructors utilize it
determines whether it is beneficial or detrimental.
