How a Search Engine Works-

1. Crawling - the google bots scan through all websites and collect all relevant info such
as keywords, organic content and others.
2. Indexing - The info received is stored in the data Centre based on the type, category
and other specifications. A rank is given to each website in this step based on the
numerous parameters such as website loading speed, organic content, use of proper
keywords and others.
3. Retrieving - Accurate and most relevant data is presented to the user when they search
for a particular keyword.

Categorization of SEO -

1. On page SEO
It involves the optimisation that we do on our website such as creating SEO title,
description, Image optimisation among others.

2. Off Page SEO


It is a way to promote the website by creating and linking relevant social media
profiles.
It also involves backlinks.
Backlink is a link that other websites are linking to our website.
On Page SEO

Things Google loves -

• Quality Content (keyword research, competitor research, engaging content with lots
of images and videos, fresh content)
• Simple HTML (Headlines, meta title, alt tags and meta description)
• Systems (Page load time, if the robot studied your website correctly)

Things Google Hates -

• Black Hat Techniques (duplicate content, cloaking (redirecting users to fake websites
under fake CTA buttons), paid links - when you pay for backlinks on different
websites, over excessive use of keywords. )
• Google search console website will tell you if google has crawled your website
properly or not. They will also tell you the issues in your website with the
solution.
Points to consider while doing On Page SEO:

• Do keywords and competitive research.


• Use your keyword in the focus keyword section.
• Try to mention the focus keyword in the SEO title, meta description and the slug.
• The content should be of minimum 300 words else it will become difficult to rank it
higher. While generating content, try to look for the content of your competitor. If they
are writing more, you will also have to match the same length.
• The content we have created should include the focus keywords that should be close to
2% of the entire word count. It is also known as keyword density.
• One should always include headers within the content which is considered as a small
ranking factor.
• We should also have internal and external links (outbound link) within the page or post.
• You should always try to include your focus keyword in the first paragraph of the
content.
• All images should include alt attributes. It is also known as alt tags or image tags or
alternative texts.
• We should try not to use the same focus keyword again and again.
• We should always have short urls.
• Try including synonyms and related keywords in your article. Latent semantic index
(LSI)
• While writing the content make sure majority (90%) of it is written in active voice.
• Always keep your sentences shorter than 20 words.
