OBJECTIVES:
Students use the relationships
between letters and sounds, spelling patterns, and morphological analysis to
decode written English. Students are expected to:

INTRODUCTION:
This lesson provides practice: Identifying words with short-vowel-sounds sound-spellings
and consonants.
TIMELINE:
3days lesson plan
1. Recognize short vowel sounds by reading and listening to a story that highlights
selected words
2. Use picture clues to aid comprehension
3. Identify short-vowel sounds that complete CV,VC,CVC word lists
4. Name words with the same short-vowel sounds
Day 1
Review: Start with Introducing themselves since it’s the first day of
class.
Ask the following questions:
o Ask the children if they can remember which five letters are vowels (a,e,i,o,u)
o As they remember write the vowels on the board as they call them out
o If they can’t remember write the letter “a” on the board then say the alphabet
and stop before each of the other vowels so the children can call out the
vowels out each time.
o Show different pictures that begins with all the short vowel letters.
For example: picture of an APPLE, ELEPHANT, IGLOO, OCTOPUS,
UMBRELLA
Let them sound out the starting letter of each word and say the name of
each letter afterwards. Then say the word.
o Identify the following pictures and say the beginning sound and name the
beginning vowel letters.
o EVALUATION
Underline all the 5 vowels found in the story. (A-a, e, i, o, u)

DAY 2
Learning C-V words(short vowel sounds)
REVIEW: Start with Introducing themselves since it’s the first day of
class.
Ask the following questions:
Ask them about the things that were discussed from the last meeting.
Intruduce some sight words like My, I , you, are, he, she, the, go, we
MOTIVATION:
Show a video clip in you tube about Vowels and Consonant “The Phonics Song”.
o Start the lesson with sounding all the vowel letters sound
o Then put a consonant letter before each vowel. Let the kids sound out the consonant and
the vowel letter then slowly guide them to read the 2 sound blends. Continue the activity by
letting them sound out every letter that you are going to put before a certain vowel letter.
Start with letter b+a= ba, b+e=be, b+i=bi , b+o=bo , b+u =bu
o After that exercises, show them the chart of CV words.
o The CV chart is made up of consonant + vowel words to introduce reading letters that made
up a simple word.
o CV Chart
o Vowels = green
o Consonants =blue
o Say the word for each picture and let them color the cards that have the short
vowel sounds of a, e, i, o, u.
APLLICATION
Let them play a game. The learners will tell the color green if it is Vowel and blue if it
is Consonant.

Write a word on the board and let them read it. CV words particularly

REVIEW: Ask the students what were the letters that they have learned from the
previous meeting.
