wants to wait for their friend at the bus says "I
would wait for you at the bus stop." Filipinos
frequently use this modal if they want to sound
formal, polite, or uncertain since they are used to
using "would" in situations where indirectness,
politeness, and tentativeness are required, while
other English speakers might opt for a different
verb form.
SG: Singaporean English grammar started
to resemble the grammar of their origin
languages. A contemporary Singaporean
would say, "I go bus-stop wait for you,"
for instance, to indicate that he will meet
you at the bus stop. Without changing the
sentence's grammatical structure, this
expression could be translated into Malay
or Chinese.
