ACCENTS(Home Language)
have a significant effect on how we pronounce words. Whether they
affect them through the form of lisp or if we accidentally mix our
words, it will become more obvious the less time we speak a language.

English is widely used around the Philippines, especially around

Manila. This leads us to knowing two languages, Tagalog and English.

Used mostly by the teenagers around my age who regularly use English
in school and online.

A mix of the language is commonly known as Taglish.

Not only do we form a mix of our home language and the language we
use, we also form a lisp.

It usually comes from how we pronounce letters like our ‘v’, ’b’, ’t’, ‘d’,
and etc.

Times and Era’s

Not only do our origins affect the way we speak but also our time
periods can also dictate how we phrase words.

Some would say that slangs are informal words that are unique
to each generation.

I would like to differ and believe that the creation of slang is a

genius invention that shall prevail for years. The types of slang
can be categorized into four types.

Shortened = Shorten Words

Replacements = Replaces Other Words
Pop Phrases = A phrase from a Popular Media
Additions = A slang added at the end of a sentence.

Examples:
The Nineties have used used Shortened slang like;

Alright ▶️ Aight
What’s up ▶️ ‘Sup?
For your information ▶️ FYI

And they have also used Replacement slangs a lot of times;

Fly = cool, outstanding, amazing

Getting Jiggy = To dance while no one is watching
Home Skillet = a friend, close acquaintance,
Let’s Bounce = Ready to leave
My bad = I am sorry
No duh = To announce that someone said something obvious
Talk to the hand = To initiate a physical fight from a verbal one
Hella = Very
Eat my shorts = Kiss my butt
What’s the 411? = To initiate gossip

They have also had Addition Slangs;

…Not!
Ok, but that is an example. There is no not at the end of this
sentence.

So on and so forth.

Although that is not to say that the recent generation of

2020-2023 is short in its supply of slangs. This generation has a
lot more slang due to the history and literature left by past
generations.

Formality(Degrees of Speech)
Is a way to measure how to speak with other people whether it
be a close family or a distant boss.

There are five ways to measure the appropriate amount of
