Remark: The units and numerical values given in { } in this Standard are based on the International System of Units (SI) and are appended for informative reference. Further, the traditional units accompanied by numerical values in this Standard shall be converted to the SI units and numerical values on Jan. 1, 1991. 1, Classification and Symbol ‘The steel shall be classified into 11 classes and symbols thereof shall be is given in Table 1-1 or Table 1-2. | | —559— —G 3106— Table 1-1. The cracking parameter of material in that case and its calcula! formula shall be as given in Appendix 2. 5. Shape, Dimension, Mass and the Tolerance Thereon The shape, dimension, and mass of the steel and the tolerance thereon shall be in accordance with JIS G 3192, JIS G 3193 and JIS G 3194. In that case, the tolerance on length of the steel plate and strip and on width of the cut edged steel plate and strip shall be in accordance with the tolerance A in JIS G 3193 unless particularly specified. Appearance The appearance of the steel shall be in accordance with 9, in JIS G 3192, 7. in JIS G 3193 and 8. in JIS G 3194, Further, the repair by welding of the steel plate of SM 58 (SM 570 on and after Jan. 1, 1991) shall be previously agreed upon between the delivery parties concerned. 8. Heat Treatment and Symbol 8.1 Heat Treatment The steel can be processed by normalizing, quenching and tempering, thermomechanical control, or appropriate heat treatment in order to secure required quality. However, thermomechanical control shall be as agreed upon between the delivery parties concerned. 8.2 Symbol of Heat Treatment When the steel has been processed by normalizing, quenching and tempering, or thermomechanical control, a symbol of heat treatment shall be suffixed to the end of the symbol of the class in accordance with Table 7. However, the appending of the symbol in the case where steels other than SM 58 (SM 570 on and after Jan. 1, 1991) is processed by normalizing shall apply only when agreed upon between the delivery parties concerned. Further, the appending of the symbol in the case where an appropriate heat treatment is performed shall be as agreed upon between the delivery parties concerned. Table 7. (a) Number of Test Pieces of Heat Treated Steels The number of fest pieces of heat treated steels shall be determined in ac- cordance with (a), (b) and (c) above-mentioned for every same heat treatment for the steel belonging to the same cast and the same sectional form. (2) Number of Impact Test Piece For the steel that has not been heat treated, take one test specimen from the steel of the largest thickness among the steels which belong to the same cast and the same sectional form, and for the steel that has been heat treated, take one test specimen from the steel of the largest thickness | among the steels which belong to the same cast, the same sectional form, and the’same heat treating conditions. Then, sample three test peices from each specimen in the rolling direction. (3) Sampling Position of Tensile Test Piece The sampling position of a tensile test piece shall be as follows: | —569— —G 3106— (a) Steel Plate, Strip and Flat Bar The centre of a test piece Shall-be ‘positioned at 1/4 width apart from the edge of width. Further, when No. 4 tensile test piece is used, it shall be positioned at 1/4 thickness in addition thereto. However, when the centre can not be positioned at 1/4 width apart from the edge of width or 1/4 thickness, it should be positioned as near as possible the above specified position. (b) Shape The Figure shall be applied, provided that, it can not « (a) (b) be applied, it should be placed as near as possible the above specified position. For the H-steel from which a test piece can not be sampled as given in the Figure, the sampling position shall be set in the same way as for I-stecl. The sampling of other shape shall be as agreed upon between the delivery parties concerned. Shape The centre of a test piece shall be positioned at 1/4 thickness apart from the surface (see Figure). However, if the centre can not be positioned at 1/4 thickness from the surface, it shall be positioned as near as possible the position. For the H-steel from which a test piece can not be sampled as given in the Figure, the sampling position shall be set in the same way as for I-steel. The sampling of other shape shall be as agreed upon between the delivery parties concerned. In this case, the notch shall be made in the direction of thickness. 9.2.3 Test Method The methods for tensile test and impact test shall be as follows: QQ) dis z 2241 (2) Charpy impact test specified in JIS 2 2242. 9.2.4 Tensile Test in the Case where Tensile Test Piece Can not Be Taken by the Dimension as Specified Execution of the tensile test in the ‘case where a tensile test piece can not be taken by the dimensions as specified and its value or the like shall be as agreed upon between the delivery parties concerned. 9.2.5 Omission of Tensile Test and Impact Test of Strip The tensile test and impact test of steel strip may be omitted subjected to the agreement between the delivery parties concerned. 10. Inspection 10.1 Inspection The inspection shall be as follows: (1) General matter for inspection shall be in accordance with JIS G 0303. (2) The chemical composition shall conform to the requirements specified in 3. (3) The carbon equivalent or cracking parameter of material shall conform to the requirements specified in 4. (4) The mechanical properties shall conform to the requirements specified in 5. (5) The shape, dimensions and mass shall conform to the requirements specified in 6. (6) The appearance shall conform to the requirements specified in 7- 10.2 Retest The retest shall be as follows: (1) The steel which has not passed the tensile test may be retested in accordance with 4.4 in JIS G 0303 and then whether it is accepted or not may be determined.
