REFLECTION/REACTION PAPER

As societies around the world continue to experience demographic shifts, the challenges associated with

an aging population and long-term care have become increasingly prominent. It is currently estimated that the

number of individuals aged 60 and above in the Philippines, reaching 7 million elderly people. With this, there

is a pressing need to foster a climate of sensitivity towards the increasing needs of our elders. Older adults

often face a higher prevalence of chronic conditions and age-related ailments, requiring specialized healthcare

services. As the elderly population grows, the demand for geriatric care, including medical treatments,

rehabilitation, and mental health services, intensifies. Ensuring accessibility and affordability of healthcare for

older individuals becomes crucial in providing adequate care. With so many challenges and issues the country

is facing, the plight of the elderly often goes unnoticed. This is why elder abuse has become an “invisible issue”

in the Philippines. As a single or repeated act, or even lack of appropriate action, that occurs within any

relationship where there is an expectation of trust, which causes harm or distress to an older person.

Furthermore, Golden Acres is an ideal home for the aged that was accredited by DSWD which offers all

inclusive health care for the elderly. It provides seniors with a safe, clean, healthy environment where they can

receive the care they need, access to proper nutrition and experience the health benefits.
