 What is Tinplate?

Tinplate is steel with a thin coating of tin for rust protection. A

layer of white enamel is added to some food cans produced
from this materials to protect the contents. Crown caps for
bottles and the lids of glass screw-cap containers are also
usually made of tinplate.

 Characteristics
As we all know, tinplate packaging containers have
the advantages of high hardness, good rigidity,
corrosion resistance, excellent barrier properties,
moisture resistance, light resistance, and sealing
properties, which can effectively protect the contents.
 Advantage and Disadvantage
of Tinplates
ADVANTAGE
The benefits of its use. It is an
economical material, easy to handle
and very safe, both to produce
resistant packaging and for those who
are in direct contact with food, which is
essential for the consumer. They
protect the contents from shocks, but
also from excessive heat or cold.
DISADVANTAGE
The main disadvantage of tin can
packaging is that it cannot be used for
packaging extremely acidic products
just like any other metallic can. It is due
to the fact that tin is corrosive and the
packaging of the acidic products would
certainly cause a reaction which would
destroy both the can and the product.

Metal based packaging materials provide excellent barrier

properties and hence, being used widely in food packaging
applications.They are used in different package forms and also
as closures such as for glass bottles and composite cans.
 Characteristics

Metal has good barrier properties to

gases, light,and odors,and it withstands
high temperatures.

 Advantage and Disadvantage
of Metal
ADVANTAGE
-metal is strong and can protect the inside
contents from damage.To several
advantages due to its lower contribution in
pollution. It's infinitely recyclable.It's easy
to sort and recycle.It helps extend product
shelf-life. It preserves product quality.It
keeps products safe. It can be used to
package hazardous goods. It's incredibly
versatile.
DISADVANTAGE
-metal is corrosive material, can affect
the quality of food. Metal is moderately
heavy packaging material. Can't see
the food content after packaging. Due
to multi –step can manufacturing
process, can making is time taking
process. Metal can react with the food
material.
