Equations of a Parabola with vertex at (0 ,0):

1) 𝒚𝟐 = 𝟒𝒑𝒙

Focus : (𝑝, 0)

Directrix 𝒙 = −𝒑

x –axis is the axis of symmetry.

If 𝑃 > 0, the graph opens to the right

If 𝑝 < 0, the graph opens to the left

2) 𝒙𝟐 = 𝟒𝒑𝒚

Focus: (0, p)

Directrix 𝑦 = −𝑝 ,

y –axis is the axis of symmetry.

If 𝑃 > 0, the graph opens upward.

If 𝑝 < 0, the graph opens downward.
