Electrical Signaling

Electrical protective signaling systems are configurations of components used to produce alarm signals indicative of fire, smoke,
sprinkler waterflow or other emergency and to produce supervisory signals indicative of conditions needing attention with respect to
protection equipment or watch service. System configurations are classified according to where and how the signals are received.
The categories are commonly designated as local, municipal, remote station, proprietary, emergency voice/alarm communication,
emergency communication, and central station. Auxiliary systems are either local or proprietary systems interconnected with a
municipal system.
This category presents the major system component categories and the integrated system configurations. The selection of
components to form a hybrid system should be made only by those skilled in system design. Also, the suitability of any system
application should be judged on the basis of the hazard(s) being protected.

Notification Appliances
These audible and visual signaling devices are used to indicate alarms, supervisory signals and equipment trouble conditions.
Audible devices take the form of bells, horns, electronic tone generators, buzzers and chimes. Speakers for emergency voice
communication also are often included in signaling systems. Because distinctive signals are necessary, more than one type of
device may be needed in a system, or devices capable of producing coded signals may be used. Visual signals may be produced
by lamp type or target type annunciators. Printers, code registers and CRT displays also are often included in signaling systems.

switch for tone setting selection. Multicandela strobes in P, S, PC, SC and CH series models use slide switch for candela
selections. Models P2W, P4R, P4RK, P4W, SR, SRK, SW, PC2R, PC2RK, PC2W, PC4R, PC4RK, PC4W, SCR, SCRK, SCW,
CHSW and CHSR appliances utilize a standard strobe with 15, 15/75, 30, 75, 95, 110 and 115 adjustable candela range. The
appliances utilizing a high candela strobe Models P2WH, P4RH, P4RHK, P4WH, SRH, SRHK, SWH, PC2RH, PC2RHK,
PC2WH, PC4RH, PC4RHK, SCWH, SCRH, SCRHK, and PC4WH utilize a high candela strobe with 135, 150, 177 and 185
adjustable candela range. Horns/strobe combinations come in either two or four wire settings ("2" and "4" suffixes), chimes/strobe
combinations are two wire only. Use the following models backboxes: SBBW and SBBR (rectangular white and red) and
SBBCW and SBBCR (circular white and red). The appliances with a suffix "K" are NEMA 3R rated for outdoor use and can use
either WTP (red) of WTPW (white) weather proof accessories (as and alternate for the weatherproof backboxes). The appliances
with letter "A" immediately after the model number are for use in Canada. The Canadian models with suffix "F" after the models
number have French marked housings; with the letter "B" both French and English. The appliances with a suffix "SP" are for
FUEGO [Spanish for "FIRE"] marked housings. The appliances with a suffix "PG" are for Portuguese language marked housings.
The appliances with a suffix "P" are for plain unmarked housings. The appliances with suffix "R" utilize red housing, and suffix "W" white.
