The Nevado del Ruiz is an important volcano located between the limits of the
department of Candad and Tollina in Colombia. It is part of the Los Nevados
National Natural Park, it is located 220 km from Bogota, it has a height of 5321
meters above sea level, with temperatures of up to -10 degrees Celsius at its peak
where it is covered by ice. In 2003 the glaciers had an extension of 21 km in
length, with up to 30 meters in depth.
