Precautions

1. Precautions
1-1. Safety Precautions
• Follow these safety, servicing and ESD precautions to prevent damage and to protect against potential hazards such as
electrical shock.

• For continued safety, do not attempt to modify the circuit board.

• Disconnect the AC power and DC power jack before servicing.

Warning

1-1-1. Servicing the Product

1. When servicing the Product, Disconnect the AC line cord from the AC outlet.

2. It is essential that service technicians have an accurate voltage meter available at all times. Check the calibration of this
meter periodically.

1-1-2. Fire and Shock Hazard

• Before returning the product to the user, perform the following safety checks:

1. Inspect each lead dress to make certain that the leads are not pinched or that hardware is not lodged between the chassis
and other metal parts in the product.

2. Inspect all protective devices such as nonmetallic control knobs, insulating materials, cabinet backs, adjustment and
compartment covers or shields, isolation resistorcapacitor networks, mechanical insulators, etc.

3. Leakage Current Hot Check:

• Do not use an isolation transformer during

Underwriters Laboratories (UL Publication

UL1410, 59.7).
ALSO TEST WITH
PLUG REVERSED
(USING AC ADAPTER EARTH
PLUG AS REQUIRED) GROUND

4. With the unit completely reassembled, plug the AC line cord directly into a 120V AC outlet. With the unit’s AC switch first in
the ON position and then OFF, measure the current between a known earth ground (metal water pipe, conduit, etc.) and all
exposed metal parts, including: metal cabinets, screwheads and control shafts.
The current measured should not exceed 0.5 milliamp.
Reverse the power-plug prongs in the AC outlet and repeat the test.

1-1
Precautions

1-1-3. Product Safety Notices

• Some electrical and mechanical parts have special safetyrelated characteristics which are often not evident from visual
inspection. The protection they give may not be obtained by replacing them with components rated for higher voltage,
wattage, etc. Parts that have special safety characteristics are identified by on schematics and parts lists.
A substitute replacement that does not have the same safety characteristics as the recommended replacement part might
create shock, fire and/or other hazards. Product safety is under review continuously and new instructions are issued
whenever appropriate.

1-2
Precautions

1-2. Servicing Precautions

• An electrolytic capacitor installed with the wrong polarity might explode.

Warning

• Before servicing units covered by this service manual, read and follow the Safety Precautions section of
this manual.

• Precautions during installation are as follows:

After opening the cover, install the product within 1 hour under humidity of 60% or below.
Caution Keep the predefined humidity while opening the cover or assembling the housing
(e.g. connection of external device, F/W update).
During storage of the product, be sure to attach the cover.

• If unforeseen circumstances create conflict between the following servicing precautions and any of the
safety precautions, always follow the safety precautions.
Note

1-2-1. General Servicing Precautions

1. Always unplug the unit’s AC power cord from the AC power source and disconnect the DC Power Jack before attempting to:
(a) remove or reinstall any component or assembly, (b) disconnect PCB plugs or connectors, (c) connect a test component
in parallel with an electrolytic capacitor.

2. Some components are raised above the printed circuit board for safety. An insulation tube or tape is sometimes used.
The internal wiring is sometimes clamped to prevent contact with thermally hot components. Reinstall all such elements to
their original position.

3. After servicing, always check that the screws, components and wiring have been correctly reinstalled.
Make sure that the area around the serviced part has not been damaged.

4. Check the insulation between the blades of the AC plug and accessible conductive parts (examples: metal panels, input
terminals and earphone jacks).

5. Insulation Checking Procedure: Disconnect the power cord from the AC source and turn the power switch ON.
Connect an insulation resistance meter (500V) to theblades of the AC plug.
The insulation resistance between each blade of the AC plug and accessible conductive parts (see above) should be greater
than 1 megohm.

6. Always connect a test instrument’s ground lead to the instrument chassis ground before connecting the positive lead;
always remove the instrument’s ground lead last.

1-3
Precautions

1-3. Static Electricity Precautions

• Some semiconductor (solid state) devices can be easily damaged by static electricity. Such components are commonly
called Electrostatically Sensitive Devices (ESD). Examples of typical ESD are integrated circuits and some field-effect
transistors. The following techniques will reduce the incidence of component damage caused by static electricity.

1. Immediately before handling any semiconductor components or assemblies, drain the electrostatic charge from your body
by touching a known earth ground. Alternatively, wear a discharging wrist-strap device. To avoid a shock hazard, be sure to
remove the wrist strap before applying power to the product.

2. After removing an ESD-equipped assembly, place it on a conductive surface such as aluminum foil to prevent accumulation
of an electrostatic charge.

3. Do not use freon-propelled chemicals. These can generate electrical charges sufficient to damage ESDs.

4. Use only a grounded-tip soldering iron to solder or desolder ESDs.

5. Use only an anti-static solder removal device. Some solder removal devices not classified as “anti-static” can generate
electrical charges sufficient to damage ESDs.

6. Do not remove a replacement ESD from its protective package until you are ready to install it.
Most replacement ESDs are packaged with leads that are electrically shorted together by conductive foam, aluminum foil or
other conductive materials.

7. Immediately before removing the protective material from the leads of a replacement ESD, touch the protective material to
the chassis or circuit assembly into which the device will be installed.

• Be sure no power is applied to the chassis or circuit and observe all other safety precautions.
Caution

8. Minimize body motions when handling unpackaged replacement ESDs. Motions such as brushing clothes together, or lifting
your foot from a carpeted floor can generate enough static electricity to damage an ESD.

1-4
Precautions

1-4. Installation Precautions

1. For safety reasons, more than a people are required for carrying the product.

2. Keep the power cord away from any heat emitting devices, as a melted covering may cause fire or electric shock.

3. Do not place the product in areas with poor ventilation such as a bookshelf or closet. The increased internal temperature
may cause fire.

4. Bend the external antenna cable when connecting it to the product. This is a measure to protect it from being exposed to
moisture. Otherwise, it may cause a fire or electric shock.

5. Make sure to turn the power off and unplug the power cord from the outlet before repositioning the product.
Also check the antenna cable or the external connectors if they are fully unplugged. Damage to the cord may cause fire or
electric shock.

6. Keep the antenna far away from any high-voltage cables and install it firmly. Contact with the highvoltage cable or the
antenna falling over may cause fire or electric shock.

7. When installing the product, leave enough space (0.4 m) between the product and the wall for ventilation purposes.
A rise in temperature within the product may cause fire.

8. If an equipment is provided with a replaceable battery, and if replacement by an incorrect type could result in an explosion
(for example, with some lithium batteries), the following applies:

• Risk of explosion if battery is replaced by an incorrect type dispose of used batteries according to the
instructions.

• Do not dispose of batteries in a fire.

• Do not short circuit, disassemble or overheat the batteries.

Caution
• Danger of explosion if battery is incorrectly replaced. Replace only with the same or equivalent type.

• Do not be exposed to excessive heat such as sunshine, fire or the like.

-- Activate power-saving mode or a dynamic screen saver if
you will not be using the product for an extended period of
time.

„„ Prevention of Afterimage Burn-in Storage

Gate Pixel Electrode (ITO) Capaccitor (Cs)
TFT
What is afterimage burn-in? Data Bus-Line

• Afterimage burn-in should not occur when the LCD panel is

operating normally. Normal operation refers to a continuously
changing video pattern. If the LCD panel displays a fixed
pattern for an extended period of time, a slight voltage
difference may occur between the electrodes in pixels that
control the liquid crystals.

• Such a voltage difference between electrodes increases with

time and makes the liquid crystals thinner.
When this occurs, a previous image can remain on the screen
when the pattern changes. To prevent this, the accumulated
voltage difference should be reduced.

• Afterimage burn-in should not occur when an LCD panel is operating in proper conditions.

Preventing afterimage burn-in

The best way to protect the product from afterimage burn-in is switching the power off or setting the PC or system to run a
screen saver when not in use. Also, Warranty service may be limited depending on instruction guide.

• Power Off, Screen Saver, or Power Save Mode

-- Go to Display Properties > Power Supply on your PC and set the product to power off as required.
-- Using a screen saver is recommended.
It is best to use a single-color or moving-image screen saver.

• Regular color Change

-- Use 2 colors
Switch between 2 colors every 30 minutes as shown
above.

2-6-3. HDCP Operation

What is HDCP?

HDCP refers to an encoding function developed to protect digital conte nt included in HDMI signal transmitted.

Operating Diagram

The operating diagram below shows how the picture is displayed when a device equipped with the HDCP function connects
to a monitor that contains an HDCP authentication code. The picture is displayed after an authentication (decoding) process
through the HDMI’s I2C line.

1. Authentication takes about 2 seconds.

2. A static screen will appear if the authentication fails. If this is the case, try the following:
-- Check the supported resolution.
-- Close and run the software again (for re-authentication).
-- Enter the HDCP key again.
-- Check that the device and graphics card are HDCP certifiable or the content is authorized for use.

1. Copy epcontrol_info file to USB root
(Warning) If you send epcontrol_info by mySingle, it can change the file name from epcontrol_info to epcontrol_infonull. In
this case, you have to change file name – epcontrol_info- and then copy to USB.

2. When you plug the USB in set, it starts saving log automatically
1) If Factory Option is set as follow, TV set can reboot for revitalizing to print Log.
(When you plug the USB in set, it can reboot once. After rebooting, it can reboot again pass by 30 seconds.
Total twice reboot).
Warning) Do not plug the usb into set if set should not be rebooted.
- RS-232 Jack : UART
- Serial Log On/Off : OFF
2) When you make a progress development step, put a option like this :
RS-232 Jack : Debug, Serial Log On/Off : ON
it can execute log storage function without rebooting even if you plug the USB.

Troubleshooting

3. The epcontrol folder is generated in root of USB memory, and created the file as follow.

1) epcontrol_key : Key file for using decoding.

2) epcontrol_data : Encrypted Log Data

[Example of epcontrol folder contents by saving log]

3) error_log : This is a folder that saves error_log and

kernel_log by abnormal termination.
→ If abnormal termination is generated, the files are saved by
increasing number like this – error_log.1 ~ error_log.10.
→ You can check the last saved log by opening
error_log_count. It will be recorded with the final log
number.
→ (Reference) If the set is dead by saving log in USB,
error_log and kernel_log is saved not in USB but in set. If
you want to save a file from set to USB, reboot the set first
and then you can check the log file in error_log folder when
log storage function is executed.
In the case of needing log folder saved problem before [Example of error_log folder]
rebooting, you have to make a back-up.
→ All of the files in error_log folder is needed to decode by
using epcontrol_key

4) backup : b
ack up file in epcontrol_key and
epcontrol_data is saved.
→ If the saved files in the old days are existed when storing
log is started, files move to backup folder.
→ Like epcontrol_key_backup1, epcontrol_data_backup1,
key and data file is saved, data file can be decoded by
using key file of same number key file.

[Example of backup folder]

5) info : save set_info file.

Troubleshooting

4. Saving Log is stopped by removing USB memory.

1) In case of changing Factory option for printing Log, the tv set will be rebooted and set default value about Factory option
when removing USB.
→ (Reference) When you remove the USB in time of executing Log storage function, the tv set is rebooted and set a
Factory Option to original value after turning on in 30 seconds.

5. And then, check that epcontrol_key, epcontrol_data are saved in USB memory by PC.

6. Decode file by using decoding tool and analyze log file.

Log Extraction Guide

1. Not dead tv set but general reproduce test
1) Copy epcontrol_info file to root folder in USB memory, put it into TV set
- If you extract a log of a certain component, make a command into epcontrol_info file. (ref. 2.2 Make a Scrip)
2) After rebooting twice, do reproduction test
3) Remove USB memory from TV set, Check the epcontrol folder and file generation by PC

2. If you want to extract error_log, kernel_log stored in the dead set

1) Copy epcontrol_info file to root folder in USB memory, put into TV set
3) After rebooting twice, remove USB memory in 30 seconds.
3) Check whether the file is extracted in epcontrol/error_log.

3. In the event that set is dead when you store USB Log
1) If the tv set is dead when you execute USB storage function, reboot tv set under putting the USB in tv set for extracting
error_log and kernel_log. (These are saved when tv set is dead)
→ Whem the tv set is dead, USB Log Storage Function is not work, so it is possible to not record some log generated
from dead tv set into epcontrol_data file.
Kernel log generated at this time is saved into tv set. When the log storage function work well after rebooting set, it is
extracted.
2) After rebooting twice, remove USB memory in 30 seconds.
3) Check wheter the file is extracted in epcontrol/error_log.
