Once registered, candidates will follow an approved


course of higher education (may include prescribed Programme Period
course work) and research under the direction and
supervision of the supervisor (or supervisors) for a Minimum – 4 semester (2 years)
period of not less than four semesters for full-time Maximum – 12 semester (6 years)
candidates and not less than six semesters for part-
time candidates.

Entry requirements for International Candidates following


1. A Master’s Degree (Mixed-modes or Research) courses and/or writing their Thesis/Dissertation in English:
with a CGPA of at least 3.00 i. A score of 5.5 for IELTS (Academic);
or or
2. A Bachelor’s Degree in with a CGPA of at least 3.00 ii. A score of 550 paper-based total (PBT) or a score of 80 for
internet-based total (IBT) or 213 for computer-based total (CBT)
or for TOEFL.
3. A qualification approved by the Senate from time For International Candidates following courses and/or writing
to time their Thesis/Dissertation in Bahasa Malaysia or Arabic Language:
i. A score of 5.0 for IELTS (Academic);
and
or
4. Submit a 1,000-1,500 word prospectus explaining ii. A score of 500 paper-based total (PBT) or a score of 80 for
the proposed research in the chosen field of study internet-based total (IBT) or 213 for computer-based total (CBT)
for TOEFL.

(i) Post graduate Diploma in Education with a CGPA of 3.00; or
(ii) A teaching qualification recognized by the University; or
(iii) Teaching experience with an institution recognized by Senate; or
(iv) A professional qualification from a recognized professional body; or

1. A Bachelor’s degree in the first specialization area with a CGPA of at least 3.00 or an equivalent degree
or
2. A Bachelor’s degree with a CGPA of at least 2.7
and
(i) At least six (6) months of working experience in education; or
(ii) Pass the written examination (by the Faculty of Education); or
(iii) A qualification approved by the Senate from time to time; or
(iv) Has other qualifications recognized equivalent to it by the Government of Malaysia and approved by the
Senate of the University of Malaya.
