Rankine Cycle
Lets watch a video.
The Carnot Vapor Cycle

1. (1-2) Isothermal heat addition

2. (2-3) Isentropic expansion
3. (3-4) Isothermal heat rejection
4. (4-1) Isentropic compression
Rankine cycle is basically the ideal cycle for vapor power cycles.
Exercise-1

Consider a steam power plant operating on the simple ideal Rankine

cycle. Steam enters the turbine at 3 MPa and 350 degree Celsius and is
condensed in the condenser at a pressure of 75 kPa. Determine the
thermal efficiency of this cycle.
Exercise-2

Consider a steam power plant operating on the simple ideal Rankine

cycle. Steam enters the turbine at 60 MPa and 1100 degree Celsius and
is condensed in the condenser at a pressure of 16000 kPa. Determine
the thermal efficiency of this cycle.
Actual Cycle

1. Pressure drop in boiler.

2. Pressure drop in condenser.

3. Entropy increase in turbine.

4. Entropy increase in pump.
