CLIMATE CHANGE: DIFFERENT IMPACTS OF HEAT WAVE

March to May is considered as the “summer season” in the Philippines, wherein families
are planning some beach or resort vacations with their love one’s. With the extreme heat
occurring in this period of time causing some effects not only in the temperature level in the
country but also in different aspects in our life.
Heat waves becomes more common in summer season but it can also be dangerous in
people lives. Heat waves is defined as the period of excessive heat weather escorted by high
humidity level of a specific country. Heat waves mostly occur when there’s a significant high
pressure existing in the earth’s atmosphere that forces it to trap the hot air in ground surface.
Heat waves has a significant impacts in society in terms of health, livelihood power and
our ecosystem. Extreme heat can cause some heat-related deaths. Elderly and infants are more
vulnerability in this situation, high temperature will attack the poor health of elders and the
sensitive condition of infants which can cause a sudden death.
Livelihood and power can also be affected in this term when the human crops are
destroyed by the heat waves, it will produce a food shortage in the country. Heat waves can
cause block outs and power shortage when the demand of electricity is not meet, the people will
enforced burning fossil fuels in order to meet the demand of electricity which can increased the
carbon emissions.
The increasing gas or carbon emissions due to the shortage of power which is cause by
the heat waves has a long term impacts in our ecosystem, triggering more heat waves and began
to be more disruptive in people lives.
According to the World Health Organization from 1998-2017, it was calculated that more
than 166,000 people living in the world died due to heat waves including the 70,000 people who
also died in heat waves in Europe in the year 2013. Furthermore, the World Health Organization
also stated that approximately 125 million people globally began to exposed in heat waves.
Recently the people in China also suffered with three consecutive heat waves exceeding 42
degrees Celsius of temperature.
With all severe impacts of heatwaves in people lives, these disaster needs to be manage
immediately. A particular attention should be invest in communities or country who’s suffering
in this extremely heat. The causes should be also be addressed properly in order to save many
live and prevent heat waves to become more disruptive in human lives. Heat wave can be more
severe and intense if people would do nothing against it. Immediate planning and proper
implementing will save so many lives that heat waves slowly taken from us.
