Observations from the plant visit (2nd visit):

• Quality Control Department:

o Responsible for testing the quality (desired composition) of the raw materials,

batch – process as well as finished goods wherein the desired composition is

checked through a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) formulated by the

Research and Development Lab.

o Also responsible for checking the quality of the party–returned materials

wherein it is thoroughly checked that the returned product exactly matches the

specifications provided by the customer or not.

o A typical day starts with employees of the department calibrating their

equipment’s (for example checking whether the weighing machine is working

accurately or not, in order to ensure correct measurements are taken).

o Converting non–moving raw materials (been stacked in the inventory for

a very long time as well as having an extremely low possibility of future

use) into raw materials that are frequently required for production. For

example, if Sodium Di – Chloride has been a non–moving material for a

long time then converting the same to frequently required raw material

through a series of reactions thereby saving upon the inventory holding

costs as well the saving of the cost required to buy the particular non–

moving raw material.

o Work in coordination with the Raw Materials department on the storing of the

various raw materials safely (preventing a strong oxidizing agent from reacting

with a strong reducing agent). This step is done on the basis of the Material

1
Safety Data (MSDS) which consists of a Standard Operating Procedure (Sop)

to execute a safe storage of the various raw materials.
