communicate and form relationships to our beliefs, attitudes and behavior. As we continue to
embrace new technologies and integrate them into our daily lives, it is important to understand how
they affect our culture and social values.

In this presentation, we will discuss how technology has changed our society, both positively and
negatively.

Most people probably would picture computers and cell phones when the subject of technology
comes to their minds. However, technology is a product of the modern era and a tool created from
specific knowledge that serves a particular function. Technological influence has been a part of life
since the advent of human species, like languages, rituals, art, etc. For instance, fire and stone tools
were important forms of technology developed during the Stone Age. The creation of stone tools
strongly impacted the way pre-modern humans lived, and the development of their hunting skills.
Just like how modern technology and social media influencing human behaviours, and shaping the
way we live today.

It’s important to stay updated about what’s going on in the world, but how do you get your news?
My grandparents got their news from reading the newspaper, or by interaction with other people.
While my parents were able to watch TV, and follow the news daily. Today, I get the news at any time
on my smartphone and via the Internet. This evolution is all due to the advancements of technology
that is gradually shaping our culture and society.

Socio-Culture

Socio-Culture is a focus of study in anthropology. The term is a combination of society and their
cultural aspects. Every society has a set of values, beliefs, traditions, and habits known as their
sociocultural values. These values shape how people engage and interact with their environment in
everyday life. They are inherited and passed from a generation to another. Although the sociocultural
values are bounded, they can be changed and influenced by the development and creations of each
era. Just like the development and use of technology in our modern era has radically influenced our
socio-culture.

As read in Implications of Changing Cultural Values by Eldon E. Snyder. It says that sociocultural
values don’t only represent ideals and goals that people in a society strive to achieve. But it also
selects the means that are used to achieve these goals and ideals. In addition, it is stated that “from
the standpoint of society, cultural values function as ideals that orient the activities within and
between social institutions. Thus, to properly understand the functioning of the family, or political,
religious, economic, and educational institutions within society requires an analysis of sociocultural
values.”

So in another word, socio-culture is who we are, what we think, our goals, what we see us normal
and what not. This can change over time, due to the developments of each era, as mentioned above.
Therefore, technology is seen as a main impact on our socio-cultural change today.
The impact of technology on culture

Technology has had a significant impact on culture, transforming the way we interact with each other
and creating new forms of expression and communication.

Here are some examples:

1) Communication:

Technology has revolutionized the way we communicate with each other, with instant messaging,
video calls, and social media connecting people around the world in real-time.

2) Music

Technology has transformed the music industry, allowing artists to record and distribute their music
without the need for traditional record labels. Streaming services like Spotify and Apple Music have
also made music more accessible than ever before.

3) Art

Technology has created new forms of art, such as digital art, and has made it easier for artists to
share their work with a wider audience through social media and online galleries.

4) Entertainment

Technology has revolutionized the way we consume entertainment, with streaming services like
Netflix and Hulu providing on-demand access to movies and TV shows.

As we can see, technology has had a profound impact on culture, creating new forms of expression

Negative effect of technology on culture and social values

1) Cyberbullying

anxiety and depression.

3) Disinformation

alat-alat batu sangat mempengaruhi cara hidup manusia pra-modern, dan pengembangan
keterampilan berburu mereka. Sama seperti bagaimana teknologi modern dan media sosial
memengaruhi perilaku manusia, dan membentuk cara hidup kita saat ini.

Penting untuk tetap mendapat informasi terbaru tentang apa yang terjadi di dunia, tetapi bagaimana
Anda mendapatkan berita? Kakek-nenek saya mendapat berita dari membaca koran, atau melalui
interaksi dengan orang lain. Sementara orang tua saya bisa menonton TV, dan mengikuti berita setiap
hari. Hari ini, saya mendapatkan berita kapan saja di ponsel cerdas saya dan melalui Internet. Evolusi
ini semua karena kemajuan teknologi yang secara bertahap membentuk budaya dan masyarakat kita.

Sosio budaya

Sosio-Budaya merupakan fokus kajian dalam antropologi. Istilah tersebut merupakan gabungan dari
masyarakat dan aspek budayanya. Setiap masyarakat memiliki seperangkat nilai, kepercayaan, tradisi,
dan kebiasaan yang dikenal sebagai nilai sosiokultural mereka. Nilai-nilai ini membentuk bagaimana
orang terlibat dan berinteraksi dengan lingkungannya dalam kehidupan sehari-hari. Mereka
diwariskan dan diwariskan dari satu generasi ke generasi lainnya. Walaupun nilai-nilai sosiokultural
itu terikat, namun dapat diubah dan dipengaruhi oleh perkembangan dan kreasi setiap zaman.
Seperti halnya perkembangan dan penggunaan teknologi di era modern kita telah mempengaruhi
sosial budaya kita secara radikal.

Sebagaimana dibaca dalam Implikasi Perubahan Nilai Budaya oleh Eldon E. Snyder. Dikatakan bahwa
nilai-nilai sosiokultural tidak hanya mewakili cita-cita dan tujuan yang ingin dicapai oleh orang-orang
dalam suatu masyarakat. Tetapi juga memilih sarana yang digunakan untuk mencapai tujuan dan
cita-cita tersebut. Selain itu, dinyatakan bahwa “dari sudut pandang masyarakat, nilai-nilai budaya
berfungsi sebagai cita-cita yang mengarahkan kegiatan di dalam dan di antara lembaga-lembaga
sosial. Jadi, untuk memahami dengan baik fungsi keluarga, atau institusi politik, agama, ekonomi, dan
pendidikan dalam masyarakat memerlukan analisis nilai-nilai sosiokultural.”

Jadi dengan kata lain, sosio-budaya adalah siapa kita, apa yang kita pikirkan, tujuan kita, apa yang
kita anggap normal dan apa yang tidak. Hal ini dapat berubah dari waktu ke waktu, karena
perkembangan setiap zaman, sebagaimana disebutkan di atas. Oleh karena itu, teknologi dipandang
sebagai dampak utama pada perubahan sosial budaya kita saat ini.

Teknologi memiliki dampak signifikan pada budaya, mengubah cara kita berinteraksi satu sama lain
dan menciptakan bentuk ekspresi dan komunikasi baru.
