Mr. Chaitanya Malik is an engineer-turned-farmer whose life story is truly an inspiration for us all. He is
a Computer Science Engineer who could have pursued the same job opportunities as his colleagues but
his heart was set on taking up something more traditional and wanted to be his own boss. After graduating
from Goa College of Engineering, he didn’t choose the beaten path and instead went for agriculture and
dairy farming, he started with scratch and came up with his own successful brand known as the Dr Malik
Farm, Pernem, Goa in 2016 with just 3 cows.
He had an ancestral property, he purchased a tractor with which Chaitanya decided to slowly develop.
There was almost 1 lakh sq mtrs of a central property, some of which he used for the cultivation of
vegetables, rice, coconuts, fruits and other organic products. All this cultivation of rice followed by
coconut, banana and cashew plantation. Lady finger, papaya, turmeric and some spices are few season
crops that are also cultivated, which further goes for sale in horticulture or retail shops.
Mr. Malik is also into dairy farming and has 30 cows that produce a large amount of A2 milk which is
sold in retail stores and is a pioneer in A2 milk. Dr. Malik has an organic farm that is a 0 budget natural
farm. The crops grown here are cultivated without the use of fertilizers. The farm also includes a natural
spring.

Learnings
For this talk we learnt what an Agripreneur is. An Agripreneur is an entrepreneur who operates a business
in agriculture. We also learnt about the product portfolio of Dr. Malik’s Farm which is mentioned in the
above content. Mr. Malik also told us about product portfolio churning that is a business strategy that
involves adding, removing or modifying products within a company’s portfolio. The goal is to maximize
value of companies product and meet the needs and preferences of the customers. We also learnt about
the difference between A1 milk and A2 milk. A1 and A2 are two types of beta-casein proteins found in
cows milk. A2 milk is said to be superior by Mr. Malik as it is easy to digest whereas A1 milk leads
various problems due to indigestion. A1 milk producing cow breeds are Holstein-Friesian, Jersey, Brown
Swiss and Karan Swiss. These cows are Cross Breed Cows known as Bos Taurus. A2 producing cows are
pure Indian breed and known as Bos Indicus. These cows are Gir, Sahiwal, Red Sindhi and Kankrej.
Malik’s Farm information also provided us with the information on revenue points and the problems
faced by them. We also learnt about the future scope of Agripreneur, the future of agripreneur is
promising in India, as Agriculture is countries largest sector. There is a potential growth and rapid
innovation in the same field. Also help from the Government is making it very attractive field to be
pursued.
