1) Why we Use RTR(A)
For Radio communication with ATC using important information.

2) Why RTR(A) Restricted?

. Radio Regulation 44 article 3454 restricted the holder of Radio Telephony Restricted
license from tuning airborne transmitter equipment directly. Instead the transmitter
require only the use of simple external switching devices.
. Also restricted for only use communication in Aviation Field not use in Marines.
3) Ways of Communications: (certified by ICAO)
a) Voice Communication; Talking between ATC & Pilot.
. Both must know same language to avoid errors like miscommunication that is
English which is internationally accepted.
. To improve Proficiency ICAO introduce new Exam called ELP( English Language
Proficiency).
. 1st Language use English also use local language if ATC and pilot both Familiar to
same language.
b) Writing Communication: When voice is not clear & Area doesn’t come in range
for voice communication like ocean area cause VHF range is (100-200 NM) then text
message is used.
. For writing communication Both ATC & A/C must be equipped with CPDLC.
. India has 4-Station with CPDLC (Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Chennai).
. For confirmation of receiving of your message from ATC you will get BEEP sound.
CPDLC: Controller pilot Data link Communication
. Fitted in FMC(Boeing) & FMS(Airbus) send via text.
. Also select by ATC
. Acts as alternate to voice communication.
CPDLC ADVANTAGES;
. Take less time.
. Safer than voice communication, accent & language barrier.
. Human error Reduce.
. Precise & to the point.
c) POINTING COMMUNICATION; Used by Air marshal & light Gun sign for visual
up to 3-5NM from airport. Radio is not working.
