With Indonesia being removed as the host for the U-20 World Cup, the dreams of the
national team players playing in their homeland had to be buried. The reason FIFA removed
Indonesia as the host for the U-20 World Cup was because Indonesia's conditions were not
conducive. Indonesia's cancellation of hosting the World Cup was also due to the rejection of
the Israeli national team to participate with the u20 national team. Meanwhile, behind all that,
Israel has actually officially become a participant in the 2023 U20 World Cup since last June
2022, becoming one of the five European representatives.
The initial chronology of the cancellation of Indonesia as the host was that there were
parties who refused Israel to participate in the u-20 world cup. The narrative of Israel's
rejection emerged ahead of the drawing which was originally scheduled for 31 March 2023.
several parties who refused Israel to participate in the u20 world cup including the governor
of Central Java Ganjar Pranowo and the governor of Bali I Wayan Koster. In a written
statement, on Wednesday 29 March 2023, FIFA crossed out Indonesia as the host for the
2023 U-20 World Cup. The decision was taken after FIFA president Gianni Infantino and
PSSI chairman Erick Thohir held a meeting in Doha, Qatar. As a result of the cancellation of
the U-20 FIFA World Cup in Indonesia, Indonesia suffered a big loss because previously it
had poured out a lot of funds. Let's continue to support the Indonesian national team in the
FIFA World Cup U-20.

Football is a popular sport worldwide. Everyone knows the game of football. A global
football association has been formed called FIFA. FIFA is the name of that association. There
is even a World Cup for this sport now. Every four years, FIFA holds the World Cup in
different countries. It has been done twenty-one times so far. And this year, Indonesia was
supposed to be the host of the 2023 U-20 World Cup. What has Indonesia prepared?
Indonesia has prepared seriously to become the host of the U-20 World Cup football
tournament. The Indonesian U-20 team will also participate in the competition, which is
planned to take place from May 20 to June 11, 2023.
Six stadiums in six cities have been prepared and renovated with a large budget. The
stadiums are Gelora Bung Karno Stadium in Jakarta, Si Jalak Harupat Stadium in Bandung
Regency, West Java, Manahan Stadium in Solo, Central Java, Gelora Bung Tomo Stadium in
Surabaya, East Java, Captain I Wayan Dipta Stadium in Gianyar, Bali, and Gelora Sriwijaya
Stadium in Palembang, South Sumatra. FIFA has inspected these stadiums and hopes they
meet the requirements to host the matches.
Besides the stadiums, other preparations include the launch of the mascot, named
"Bacuya," which is a Javan rhinoceros wearing the red and white national team costume. The
Javan rhinoceros is one of Indonesia's unique endangered species. The Javan rhinoceros has
the uniqueness of having only one horn and skin like armor. That's why the Javan rhinoceros
was chosen as the mascot.
The construction of parks and promotional campaigns has also been carried out.
Posters, billboards, and campaign banners have been installed in public spaces to celebrate
the U-20 World Cup. All these preparations have been done at a significant cost. However,
unfortunately, all the preparations made have been in vain because FIFA canceled Indonesia
as the host. This has made the Indonesian people disappointed with FIFA

FIFA's decision to cancel Indonesia as the host of the FIFA World Cup U-20 made
Erick Thohir as chairman of PSSI not silent. He met FIFA President Gianni Infantino in
Doha. After negotiating with the FIFA leadership, the official announcement came out with
the cancellation of Indonesia hosting the FIFA World Cup U-20.
This cancellation cannot be separated from the rejection of the Governor of Central
Java, Ganjar Pranowo, and the Governor of Bali, I Wayan Koster, against the presence of
Israel in the FIFA World Cup U-20 in Indonesia. Both regional heads come from the same
party, PDI-P, a party that rejects Israel's arrival. Meanwhile, PKS is one of the parties that is
consistent in condemning Israel. The reason for the rejection is the same, namely because
Israel is an occupier of Palestine.
This cancellation is also inseparable from the political impact that may be experienced
if Indonesia continues to host, considering that Indonesia will soon hold General Elections in
2024. Political figures and political parties that might be greatly affected are Ganjar Pranowo
and PDI-P. Ganjar Pranowo is one of the candidates for the Indonesian Presidential and Vice
Presidential Elections. He also has a fairly high electability. Ganjar Pranowo's firm stance of
rejection has clearly caused disappointment and encouragement not to vote for Ganjar and
PDI-P, this can be seen on Ganjar's Instagram account.
Then, what about PKS? The party is also likely to be affected by the rejection of the
Israeli National Team, but only slightly affected by soccer fans. This is because PKS loyal
voters are known to be anti-Israel and staunch supporters of Palestinian independence. So it
is interesting to see the survey results after the cancellation of the FIFA World Cup U-20.
Through this data, we can see how much political impact Ganjar Pranowo, PDI-P and PKS
will receive. And it is not impossible that this issue will be echoed again by soccer social
media accounts and political buzzers ahead of the 2024 elections.
