own pros and cons:

Let's begin with the Typical Indian MBBS’s go-to-book:

Harsh Mohan:

Pros:

• Language is very easy and student friendly and reading with even a bit of
concentration is like a cake-walk.

• Lots of Pictures with correct correlation and exhaustive pearls.

• Point-wise presentation of a topic for easy flow of reading. (Now, if you are a
crammer, you know how to write it in your answer sheet)

• Due to the recent mushrooming of Medical Colleges throughout the nation, The
quality of Students is Sub-standard to the actual potential, so the concerned faculty
will suggest you to read Harsh Mohan and most of the questions will be framed
accordingly (though I still don't see if there is any harm if you read Robbins in your
whole 2nd Proffs) and thus, Harsh Mohan is a book which help you ace your Exams,
and rightly so, if you know your stuff. (Half-knowledge, of course)

• Unlike foreign authors; Harsh Mohan has this great advantage that it brings INDIAN
STATSISTICS to your notice, and not that of the US, so the reader can connect and
develop more interest and still beware of the population. (Rightfully, since you are
going to serve here - *if you will)

Cons:

• Visualisation in 2-D images is more for exams than concept based learning (The
information presented is like more of a 8th grade science book than an Undergrad
book)

• Knowledge is definitive, it is restricted to the end of the chapter as if that topic is

only for that chapter. No open ends, No inquisitive nature, nothing of that sort.

• With the above said point, the reader can more often have a false impression that
he knows whole pathology of a concerned chapter when reading from this book.

Summary: Harsh Mohan is a good book if you want to score in your day to day
exams/Vivas/Profs and any theoretical test of that sort and it is the best book of
pathology if you want to survive in Med school.

Robbins and Cotrans:

Pros:

• Language: Lucid enough to keep you questioning stuff in each and every nook and
corner, keeps you very engaged and interested. Takes both time and concentration.

• Imaging is either real or if representative, a 3-D image with appropriate flow and
concept based daigrams.

• No matter where you go, this is the Epitome of Pathology, you won't have a better

book. Just be smart and know what to write in a test, and what to keep to yourself
concept building.

• Open- Ended Knowledge: The beauty of every best book lies in the line where it
screams “ I don't know” even after an exhaustive description, only the genius and
humble are able to do that, so the reader here is open to new frontiers. Nothing is
finite, and this book tells you how dynamic Pathology is and how it connects so well.

• If you are mature enough to hold your horses and not lose your cool, you will see
how much you know about pathology and still more, how much you don't know, and
this keeps you engaged if you are enthusiastic enough.

Cons:

• Some people may find the language difficult to follow.

• Lots of “unwanted”(nothing is unwanted in MBBS, it's only unwanted for the exams)
stuff and recent research breakthroughs which nobody is going to reward you for in
a test

• Keeps the reader in the impression that he doesn't know much even after thorough
reading. (So, Parental Advisory: Robbins and Cotrans is only for those who are
confident about themselves, handle with Care).

• Statistics of United States doesn't represent the globe, keep that in mind.

Summary: 20/10 Sane people would recommend this book. (:P) Remember when you
were a child and told your parents/relatives that you are going to be a Doctor in a
lisping way? Bring out that Curiosity in you if you want to develop love for this book. It
is the best book for concept building in pathology and maybe the most beautiful book,
only probably after Harrison’s/Guyton.

exam..

Robbins is the FATHER & MOTHER OF ALL PATHOLOGY books..Every pathology

book has some faulty in it..but like HARRISON in MEDICINE,you can blindly trust
ROBBINS for pathology…but before the exam,,u r not able to engulf all it from cover
to cover..GENERAL PATHOLOGY is awesome..if you learn it from ROBBINS very
well,,then you can easily handle the burden of SYSTEMIC PATHOLOGY..now,i will say
better not to go in details for systemic pathology portion from ROBBINS..As it is far
more complicated & u will be messed up…So,HONESTLY desi book HARSH MOHAN
IS THE saviour book,in that aspect..

In a NUTSHELL plz GO THROUGH BOTH THE BOOKS IF POSSIBLE.. IF not possible

then go for following combo

*ROBBINS+RAMDAS NAYAK

*ROBBINS + GEETIKA KHANNA BHATTACHARYA…

Pathology is base of the medicine. We need to spend so much time to read this
subject along with pharmacology.

I am not saying Harsh mohan is not good book. It is a good book but the purpose is
to clear the exam by this. If you want to clear the concepts and fundamental of
pathology, must go with Robbins. It is the Bible of pathology. Atleast you should
read General Pathology from it. Remaining Systemic you can read from Harshmohan.
Robbins is very leanthy book. We need so much time to read it and also remember ,
Revision is very important. So make short notes and flow charts of Robbins during
reading of General Pathology. I strongly recommend to read atleast general
pathology from Robbins. But Harshmohan is not waste manual. It is also important
for exam. Actually it is exam oriented book. So have both books. Read Robbins
daily and enjoy the pathology and for exams have the Harshmohan also.

Thank you :)

Harsh Mohan is a pathetic book. All my seniors said Harsh Mohan saying it is really
easy to understand and it's a good book and xyz. But my teachers said Robbins. But
since we have a very bad habit of listening to seniors i bought Harsh Mohan even
after knowing that Robbins is the book. In my college they first covered Tissue
processing which i read from HM practical book and was happy because Robbins
didn't have it. But when they started teaching Cell degeneration i realised how bad
HM is. It's an annoying book. It makes things more complex and on the another hand
Robbins simplifoes things. Everything is very easy to understand. And yoh remember
things.

I'm really thankful that i switched from HM to Robbins on the beginning itself.

Yes it is true some things that are there in the syllabus is not covered in Robbins in
much depth. Like Gangrene, Tissue processing even Haematology for thta I'll
recommend you to use Ramdas Nayak

It's difficult to revise from Robbins again and again plus it is tough to write answers
as everything seems to be from here and there . So Ramdas solves that problem

So Buy Robbins and Ramdas Nayak . Don't go for HM it's a pathetic book

For practical purpose use your journal or buy Clinical pathology book,

All the Best!!

Well, this may not be the typical case of choice paralysis but one needs to be
religious in dedicating some time/day without exception to Robbins to see the
desired effects.

In my knowledge, Robbins is better than Harsh mohan.Because Harsh mohan gives

you only those concepts that are necessary to clear board exams..But if you want to
crack entrance, you need to go for Robbins.

since almost all MBBS students are PG aspirants,Its better to go with robbins.and
remember, the questions of entrance are simply cut and pasted from standard books
which in this is robbins

is better, click on the link below:
