often becomes obvious how much an integral part these portable
workstations have become in our life- especially more pronounced
after the pandemic - it becomes all the more necessary not to
become oblivious to certain precautions that need to be taken
while reaping the boon of technology to the best of our
capabilities.

While adhering to the basic cause behind a dedicated almanac for

hands-down the most enjoyable & relatable discipline of our
generation, we at G.D. Goenka Dwarka have hence made an effort
to bring about a well-rounded hamper of perspectives, ranging
from basic computing concepts, new innovations made in this field
of Computer Science, to the most special ideas shared by our
peers.

AI PERFUMERS
It is well known that artificial intelligence is widely used
in healthcare,
education, and customer service along with many other fields, but how
many of us know that AI is also used in perfumery? On a theoretical
note, AI could do wonders in the perfume industry by bringing
innovation into the various aromas that companies prepare for
perfumes. Recently, IBM research collaborated with Symrise (a German
fragrance house) to introduce ‘artificial olfaction sensation’ in
perfumery. They analyzed current fragrance chemical formulae to
obtain a new way of preparing fragrances. Besides this, they also
studied historical buying data to understand consumer choices and
preferences. Then they used this data for mixing several aromatic
components to give a distinctive fragrance.

This algorithm studies existing fragrance formulae and then compares

the ingredients to other data sets, like geography and customer age.
This algorithm, named Philyra, can now develop new perfumes that will
target specific market segments. For instance, a Brazilian brand asked
for scents that would target Brazilian millennials. Philyra compared
formulas against scents that were popular in that age range and area
and came up with two. The first, according to Symrise senior perfumer
Apel, smelled like “… fenugreek seeds, green cardamom pods, carrot
seed, all wrapped with a milky, buttery, rich base note.” The other
fragrance was a fruity, floral scent — aimed at girls — which Apel called
“innocent, sparkling, effervescent.” Both perfumes quickly became
Brazil’s top perfumes for millennials at that time. Unlike humans,
Philyra can create new scents in a speedy process. Does this mean AI
can replace chemists working in laboratories to brew scents for our
perfumes?

Experts in both artificial intelligence and perfumery agree this won’t

happen- yet. Instead, they believe that Philyra will be like an
apprentice that our master perfumers (aka the chemists) will be able
to work with. Thus, Philyra’s main initiative is to introduce an
efficiency that wasn’t there in the perfume brewing process before,
and applying machine learning to the fragrance industry could help
companies mug coveted scents without violating trade secrets by using
an algorithm to merely tweak the formula slightly. However, whether
this can be used on a large scale is still uncertain. But one thing is sure:
AI has left an enormous impact on the way we brew perfumes.

HOW DO AI CHABOTS USE WATER ?

Most of the prominent chatbots’ cloud computing relies on thousands of servers inside data centers

around the world. Computers are used to train algorithms known as ‘models’ to perform tasks like
answering questions from users. During a 20 to 50-question conversation with the AI chatbot, they
estimate it could “drink” a 500ml bottle of water. “While a 500ml bottle of water might not seem too
much, the total combined water footprint for inference is still extremely large, considering chatgpt’s
billions of users,” the researchers say. Scientists believe that while training GPT-3 alone, Microsoft
may have consumed an incredible 700,000 liters of water.
More complex next-generation models like GPT-4 could consume even more during training, they say,
but there is hardly any publicly available data with which to make an accurate estimate. The study’s
authors have urged companies to “take social responsibility and lead by example” to address their
water footprint in the face of global shortages. “AI models’ water footprint can no longer stay under
the radar - water footprint must be addressed as a priority as part of collective efforts to combat
global water challenges,” they conclude.

IS THE END OF JAVA NEAR?

Recently, it has been found that a general-purpose programming language,Kotlin, has 155%
more searches than a few years back. JetBrains developed it back in 2016 specifically as a better
version of Java, but it lately skyrocketed in 2022 after the development of version 1.8. Its usage
is gradually growing. Google has already announced Kotlin is the most preferred app for
Android app developers. However, the essential question remains: Is the end of Java near? And
the answer is: Yes. It has been estimated that Kotlin may completely take over Java by 2026.
Let's wait and see how things turn out.

USE OF AI IN GENETIC STUDIES

Scientists from all over the world are involved in
-Hridhaan Solanki, VIII D
finding specific genes in a human, which contribute
to a particular genetic disease or disorder. This is a
very complicated process and requires many
people to compare human DNA to fruit fly DNA and
see if it yields any results. If a result is obtained,
then different drugs are used to look for effects, if
any. However, At the University Of California,
people have developed an AI which can make the
task drastically easier. Instead of comparing two or
more conditions, using AI now scientists can
directly compare the effects of different drugs on
genes. This is a huge breakthrough and can help
scientists to study such diseases and save millions
of lives. Furthermore, It could lay the horizon for
making ‘Designer Babies’ in the future. The
possibilities are endless.

WILL FUTURE COMPUTERS RUN ON HUMAN

BRAIN CELLS?
Every computer has its limitations, and we are very
close to it. In the modern world, the usage of data
increases every moment. With this speed, Even the
most sophisticated supercomputer or even a
quantum computer soon might be unable to digest
the humongous amount of data. Seeing this threat,
researchers have developed the idea of using
neurons as a form of ‘biological hardware’ in
computers. This is because the capability of a brain is
incomparable. Although supercomputers can
manage calculations fast, a brain is very good at
logical reasoning. This idea might sound far-fetched,
but it is easier than it seems. Researchers believe an
initial prototype may be completed within a lifetime.
Researchers say that all they require is enough
funding. If appropriately funded, a computer as
intelligent as a mouse might be completed in a
decade. Also, side-by-side, we could learn something
to better understand the functioning of the brain.
However, as the title says, Can we use a human
brain? It could be done within a hundred years ,but
the project needs funding. All we can do, for now, is
look out for any updates.

UNLEASHING UNPRECEDENTED
COMPUTATIONAL POWER AND
INNOVATIVE DISCOVERIES

-Rakshit Balaji, XA
Quantum computing is an interdisciplinary field anticipated to
revolutionize computing capabilities. By harnessing the concepts of
quantum mechanics, this contemporary generation has the potential
to rectify complicated issues quicker than conventional computer
systems. Quantum computing is the sphere that mixes factors of
computer science, physics, and arithmetic to lay out laptop structures
that take advantage of the concepts of quantum mechanics. Unlike
classical computer systems, which use bits to symbolize information,
quantum computer systems use qubits. Qubits can exist in a couple of
states simultaneously, giving them exponential computing electricity.
Quantum computing is primarily based on essential concepts of
quantum mechanics which include superposition and entanglement.

Quantum computing faces demanding situations which include qubit

balance, and scalability. Building and keeping strong quantum
structures is a complicated task, and quantum computer systems are
at risk of environmental influences. A quantum computer includes key
additives which include qubits, which save and procedure quantum
information, and quantum gates, which control the states of the
qubits. Quantum generation consists of unique tactics for quantum
computing. Examples consist of superconducting circuits, topological
qubits, and photonic-primarily based structures.

Each generation has its very own benefits and contributes to the
various panorama of quantum computing studies and improvement.
Companies in numerous industries are gaining knowledge of the
potential of quantum computing. Areas which include finance,
logistics, and cybersecurity can gain from these skills. Several
corporations have made huge developments in quantum computing.
Google's Sycamore quantum processor has executed quantum
supremacy, demonstrating the potential to remedy issues that might
take classical computer systems years to remedy. In India, the Indian
Institute of Science and its subsidiaries QNu Labs and IonQ India are
riding quantum studies and improvement. Quantum computing has
the first-rate potential to revolutionize many industries and remedy
issues which are presently computationally infeasible. As studies and
improvement continue, the appearance of realistic quantum
computer systems should herald a technology of unheard-of
computational electricity and progressive discoveries.

HOW AI ANALYZES 3D ASSETS

- Lavanya Pandey, XI-A1
Automating 3D asset generation is a vast topic in the 3D industry.
Indeed, 3D assets are often required to be generated at an extremely
high level of detail, which means that we need to spend a lot of time
and resources to develop them. Automating this process means
reducing production costs, which leads to a better overall quality of
the available content. Automated methods to generate 3D models
usually use pictures as inputs, using knowledge about different items
to generate the missing information. For example, it is possible to
create 3D assets of cars just by using a picture. Such an algorithm is,
of course, designed specifically for vehicles, which is why we can
obtain this excellent result.

Like the example above with cars, we can do the same thing with human
faces. By analyzing a database of 3D faces, it is possible to create
algorithms transforming pictures of 2D faces into 3D assets by
understanding what a face looks like and interpolating new pixels from
there. It won’t generate your exact face as it lacks information, just like
a human couldn’t do it either. Still, it will find a very accurate and
possible solution for all around the head from a single portrait picture.

A recent work that can provide us with a glimpse of what may be possible
in the future is called NeRF. It allows the creation of basic scenes from
different images of the same item.
These results are outstanding and are promising for a future revolution of
the way we are creating 3D assets. Once we have such 3D models, we can
use them in our virtual worlds. For these models to be as realistic as
possible, we want their motions to be as close to reality.

THE TRUE NEED FOR ASSISTANCE

- Sanskar Pathak , XI A1

AI can be integrated into fields which

revolutionize everything in a sector by
indescribable amounts. Most of the
integrated technologies, however, just
make common and insignificant parts of
our life easier, that is, they aren’t very
useful. Hence, a very reasonable question
can be asked whether any of them are
worth buying or not. I am of the belief
that the most common example, AI
assistants, are worth buying.

One such assistant is the family robot companion, Enabot EBO X which was introduced
by the Chinese robotics company Enabot in the International Consumer Electronics
Show (CES) 2023 event–which was held in Las Vegas. It is a Three-In-One Home
Guardian, which acts like a protector, a companion and a playmate. It’s aim is to give
us more time to spend on our family and help us with their safety and care.

When initially used, it will use its mapping function and travel all around our house to
create a digital map in its inner system. It has a very minimalist design, which is kid-
friendly, and pet-friendly–as a spherical ball supported with two wheels. Despite the
design, this bot can perfectly balance itself even when pushed back and forth. It can
travel with a maximum speed of 1.5 m/s and can climb an angle of 15° smoothly. It can
detect an edge, which will make it fall over, and stop before going over it. It is also
great at Obstacle Avoidance through its built-in dToF (direct Time-of-Flight)and ALS
(Ambient Light Sensing) sensors. It can also automatically go back to its charging
station if it is low on battery, and it takes about 1 hour to recharge from 30% to 80% .
It can communicate with its user directly or through its EBO HOME app on any device.

It consists of an Elderly Fall Alert which immediately informs its user if any elderly member
of their family seems to have injured themselves and can also show a live video to them,
using posture recognition and its 4K Stabilized Camera with Color Night Vision. It also has a
Crying & Call-for-Help Alert which uses the same functions to inform the user if their baby
has suddenly started crying. It can also use its Premium Speaker for a two-way
communication and soothe the baby by making it listen to its parent’s voice.

Certain Areas Intrusion Alert is yet another of its ability which can inform the user if
someone has entered a dangerous, private area specified by the user. It uses facial
recognition to give medication or any such reminder, or someone marked by the user. It
records a voice message and can give it from the user to the person marked by them.

These two functions, just mentioned, are done through its Multiple Log In function which
allows multiple family members–up to 5 people–to use its EBO HOME app.It also has a
Sound Source Detection function and can act as a great listener by directly looking at you
and has Smart Tracking to follow anyone if commanded. It can connect with other
applications like Alexa as well. Since it has Facial Recognition, Posture Recognition, and a
4K Stabilized Camera, it can also act as a personal photographer or an automatic video
recorder.

EBO X ENABOT IS THE BEST EXAMPLE OF AN ARTIFICIALLY INTELLIGENT,

AUTOMATED PERSONAL ASSISTANT WHICH IS SUITED FOR ELDERS,
CHILDREN OF ALL AGES, AND PETS. ITS DYNAMIC LIGHTING ALLOWS IT TO
REACT TO SITUATIONS AND CAN BE CUSTOMIZED AS PER THE
USER’S TASTES. WITH FURTHER RESEARCH AND ADVANCEMENTS, THIS
APPLICATION PROMISES EVEN MORE FUNCTIONS AND FEATURES.

BEWARE!! THE NEWEST SCAMS ARE HERE

Internet scams are constantly evolving. The FBI documented a record of
more than $10.2 billion in losses due to internet crimes in 2022, here is a
list of the top internet scams

1. Phishing Scams
You receive an email from a seemingly familiar enterprise that you deem
legitimate, such as your bank, university, or retailer. The message directs
you to a site—usually to verify personal information such as email addresses
and passwords—that then steals your information and exposes your
computer to attack by scammers.

2.Tech Support Scams

With this scam, you receive a phone call, email, or pop-up warning
indicating your computer is infected. The scammer then Prompts you to
download an application that allows them to control your computer
remotely. Downloads an actual virus or otherwise makes you believe that
something is wrong. Tells you they can fix the problem for a fee. This way
they get access to your device easily and get paid for a problem they
created.

3. 419 Fraud—Advance Fee Scams

The scammer usually claims to be a member of a wealthy Nigerian or another
West African family, reaching out to you personally after the death of a loved
one. They seek to relocate a large fortune out of the country for safekeeping
purposes and into your bank account. The catch though is that you must
submit small payments for fees in return for a large chunk of their cash,
