Objectives

1. To demonstrate that healthy living is a way


recommended by the Prophet ‫ﷺ‬.
2. To associate the recommendations given by the
Prophet ‫ ﷺ‬with the latest internationally accepted
recommendations
3. To associate Islamic recommendations with the
benefits on health as proven by latest research
4. To demonstrate the components of a healthy
diet and physical activity recommendations
5. To determine the harmful nature of junk food
“eat and drink and do not commit excesses; indeed
He does not love those who are excessive”
– The Holy Quran (7:31)

Eating in moderation and following a healthy


lifestyle is a form of Ibadah
Reason for laying importance on
healthy eating
Decreased disease risk

Increased happiness (as if moving from


unemployment to employment)

Having breakfast associated with higher IQ

Better performance at school


I heard the Messenger of Allah ‫ﷺ‬say: A human
being fills no worse vessel than his stomach. It is
sufficient for a human being to eat a few
mouthfuls to keep his spine straight. But if he
must (fill it), then one third of food, one third
for drink and one third for air.

Sunan Ibn Majah 3349


The Hadith is pretty much in – line
with the internationally accepted
recommendations of
✓ Small frequent meals
✓ 3 main meals and 2 snacks
✓ Consuming a variety of foods
✓ Adequate fluids (about 2 to 3L per day)
✓Olive oil : Richest source of
Omega 3
✓Pomegranate: Very rich in
flavonoids/ polyphenols
✓Grapes: Rich in antioxidants
✓Bananas: Excellent source of
Potassium and Magnesium
✓Dates: Rich in potassium, Iron
and fibre
Allah's Messenger ‫ ﷺ‬said, 'at-
Talbina gives rest to the heart of
the patient and makes it active
and relieves some of his sorrow
and grief.

Sahih al-Bukhari 5689


‫ت‬ ۟ ‫ط ِي ابۭا َوٱ ْش ُك ُر‬
َ ‫وا نِ ْع َم‬ َ ‫ٱَّللُ َحلَ ٰـ ا ًۭل‬ ۟ ُ‫فَ ُكل‬
َّ ‫وا ِم َّما َرزَ قَ ُك ُم‬
َ ‫ٱَّلل ِإن ُكنت ُ ْم ِإيَّاهُ ت َ ْعبُد‬
‫ُون‬ ِ َّ

“So eat of the lawful and good food which Allah has provided for you.
And be grateful for the Favour of Allah, if it is He Whom you worship.”
( An-Nahl, Chapter #16, Verse #114)

Quran’s emphasises on “Tayyab Food” – Food that is BENEFICIAL


AND NOT JUNK !
You need to run for 30 minutes
with moderate speed to burn
that one chocolate bar !
• Greek yogurt and mixed berries
• Cucumber slices with hummus
• Hard-boiled eggs
• Popcorn
• Dates with cucumber
• Tomato with feta cheese and
olive oil
• Egg on brown toast
• Roasted chickpeas
• Fruit salad
• Makhanay (Lotus seeds)
• Dosa/ Idli

The Prophet ‫ ﷺ‬use to compete
with his wife in Racing

Ahmad (26277)
The Prophet ‫ ﷺ‬said: “Everything in
which there is no remembrance of
Allah is idle play, except … a man
training his horse; a man racing, and a
man learning how to swim.”
(Narrated by an-Nasaa’i in as-Sunan al-Kubra (8889); classed
as saheeh by al-Albaani in as-Saheehah (315).)
✓ Being Physically active is Sunnah –
Participate in house work – that is
sunnah too !
✓ Enroll yourself in physical education
classes
✓ Learn how to swim – Its sunnah ;)
✓ Avoid useless activities (excessive
videogames, TV, mobile etc.)
✓ DO NOT STAY IDLE !

Be careful that your awrah is not exposed.


Females can take part in physical activity
sessions away from the male gaze !
Abu Hurairah radiyallahu anhu said, “I did not
see anyone walk faster than the Prophet ‫ﷺ‬
….We found it difficult to keep pace when we
walked with him….”

Sunan At-Tirmidhi (Book 18, Hadith: 116)


Exercise/ Being physically
active makes you happy. The
effect is similar to taking
antidepressants.
Research
suggests… Those who are physically
activity have better academic
performance.

form of physical activity, make an
intention that this is Sunnah !
