1. Overview
Installation kits are available for a wide range of a pplications. They allow the the PS 8000 head unit to be
simply disconnected from one vehicle and re-connected to the next.
The PS 8000 functions are then re-configured by uploading control software from the appropriate 'Data
Module ' connected to the upper serial port on the back of the instrument. The DGPS receiver connects to the
lower serial port.
The PS 8000 in standard configuration functions as a yield monitor without yield mapping capability.
Instructions on re-configuration and use of the PS 8000 to enable Precision Farming (PF) functions are
included in the "Data Logging and Transfer" manual supplied with your data module.
SCREEN-10.TIF
The four menu keys to the ri ght of the screen (figure 2) access the primary screen page s (those viewed during
normal operation). There are three primary screens MAIN, INFO and LOG for normal operating functions, and
a SETUP screen for calibration functions and settings specific to particular crops.

4. Calibration
4.1 Introduction
The Pro-Series 8000 requires calibration to enable accurate and consi stent performance. It normally must be
re-calibrated if moved onto an different combine.
The key selects the SETUP menu.
There are se veral aspects to calibration:-
' Operator' se ttings - i ncluding general preferences for the instrument di splay functions.
Technician' settings - settings ge nerally made only upon i nstallation mainly for the various system sensor s (PIN
number required) .
Factory' settin gs - settings generally made only upon installation for a particular combine (PIN number
required).
GPS/PF' settings - a pplicable for yield mapping.
Regular settings - regular checks and adjustments as part of the normal daily operating routine each of up to
10 crops (refer to Section 2 for full instructions) .

"SSF"
This i s the di stance traveled forward in the time between two pul ses from the shaft speed sensor. This could
be calculated based on the nominal tyre diameter or rolli ng distance and then entered manually, however this
does not take into account wheel slip, compaction, or tyre deformation under practical operating conditions.
The best method is do an 'Auto Cal'
Default SSF = 1.000 me tre (39.37") / pulse
"Auto Cal"
Mark a set distance of 100 metres (or 100 yards depending on the units set on the i nstrument) by suitable
means. The sur face should be repre sentative of the average har vesting conditions (i.e . not a pave d surface).
Position the harvester with the fir st marker level with a suitable reference point on the vehicle.
Select 'Auto Cal' , pre ss and then follow the screen instructions (figure 30b) .

3. Yiel d Delay
PS66.JPG
31
PS8000 - CERES YIELD MONITOR
The grain sensor i s measuring grain which actually entered the combine some time earlier. A programmable
'yield delay' i s nee ded to match the measured grain flow to the work rate measured when that grain entered
the combine. The area data is delayed by this time period to give a true yield /area function.
Default = 15 secon ds
NOTE: This setting is e specially important if the yield data is combined with positional data to subsequently create
yield maps.
To establish the correct delay time:-
1. Select the diagnostics screen (p. 26).
2. Note the time interval between the cutter bar entering the crop and the % darkness reading increasi ng.
3. At the end of the field note the time interval between the cutter bar leaving the crop and the % darkness
reading decreasing.
4. Average the timings to obtain the pr oper delay time.

4.4.1 PC points
Figure 37a Figure 37b
PS-26-A.JPG PS-26-B.JPG
There are 6 calibration points (PC points) which ena ble accurate yield measurement from zer o throughput (PC
t) to maximum throughput (PC 5) of grain in the clean grain elevator. PC points are derived from the
measurement of grain throughput in barn tests on a wide range of combine makes and model s. The 'PC
Points' are automatically set for the har vester model selected from the pre-programmed list in the 'Combine
Select' menu and do not nee d normally need to be altered. The ge neric PC points for the 'Default combine
type' are automatically set as:-
PC point Value (% darkness)
PC Tare 0.000
PC 1 5.790
PC 2 10.10
PC 3 17.29
PC 4 23.76
PC 5 30.12
To change a PC figure , position the menu pointer opposite the fi gure ( figure 37 b), type in the new value and
press .
NOTE: In all case s 'PC Tare ' is the tare value found on a test combine .. The tare reading obtained on another example
of the same combine type may have a different value. After setting the tare all PC fi gures will be offset by the
difference between the existing 'PC Tare' fi gure and the new tare fi gure.
33
PS8000 - CERES YIELD MONITOR
Select "SENS B" to programme PC points independently for sensor B. This may be require d i f for example , a
second sensor is positioned at a different 'X' position on the elevator.
Select "BOTH SENS" to programme PC points the same for both sensor s.
PC Curve
This function is currently not required.
It is an alternative method of calibration to pr ogramming individual PC points. The end result however, would
be the same.
PS-27-A.JPG PS-27-B.JPG
The 'Gain', 'Offset', 'Thre shold' and ''Correction' value s calibrate the moisture sensor to enable accurate
readings for crops up to a certain limit of moisture content. They are specific to each crop, so you must first
select the crop by pressi ng the key.
The menu di splays the crop type selected (figure 38b).
34
PS8000 - CERES YIELD MONITOR
PS-28-A.JPG PS-28-B.JPG
Movement on sloping ground alters the distribution of grain on the ele vator paddles and a ffects grain
measurement. There are four 'Slope' factors which compensate for the effect of side slope and
forward/backward slope on the flow of grain through the clean grain elevator. 'Slope ' factors are deri ved from
the measurement of grain throughput in barn tests on a wide range of combine makes and model s.
The 'LH Slope ' and 'RH Slope' factors are automatically set for the harvester model selected fr om the pre-
programmed list i n the 'Combine Select' menu and do not need normally need to be altered. The menu
displays the combine type selected ( figure 39b). All factors are listed for reference in Appendi x 1 .
The generic factors for the 'Default combine type' are automatically set as:-
Slope factor Value Sensor voltage/angle:
(% darkness per degree of slope) - calibrated range
LH -0.107 2V (-15°)
3V (level)
RH -0.208 4V (+15°)
FW 0.000 2V (-15°)
3V (level)
BW 0.000 4V (+15°)
To change a sl ope factor, position the menu pointer opposite the fi gure (fi gure 39 b), type in the new value and
press .
NOTE: If a single axis sensor is installed, leave the 'FW / BW Slope' values set to zero.
If no sen sor i s in stalled then all values shoul d be set to zero.
If the dual axis sensor is fi tted, the 'FW' and 'BW' factors are gi ven in Appendix 1 . If figure s are not given for
your combine, then leave the value s set to zero.
