SIMPLEBEACON RELEASE NOTE

Product Family: EM9304

Part Number: EMBC22

Keywords: SimpleBeacon

The SimpleBeacon Editor is a tool for generating one or

more of the patches used to modify the behavior of the
EMBC22. This editor is meant for customer that need to
make general changes to the behavior. Not all of the
EMBC22 options are available via this editor so contact an
EM Microelectronics FAE for additional assistance on more
complex issues. It should be noted that the SimpleBeacon
Editor was initially based on the EM9304 Config Editor but
all of that functionality has been removed and the
name/version numbers now reflect that change.

The SimpleBeacon Editor (SBE) is specifically design for

generating patches for the EMBC22. The tool can
generate a single patch with all the changes (multiple
configurations within a single EMP) or jut an individual
patch. The tool, in many cases, expects the user to
provide hexadecimal formatted data (prefixed with “0x”). If
you are unfamiliar with this format then contact an EM
Microelectronics FAE for additional assistance.
SBE Release V1.0.0 was the first release of the tool and
provided the ability to generate any of the 14 patch types
available.

SBE Release V1.2.0 adds the ability to import any of the

generated patches back into the tool. All of the tabs with
changes are identified by changing the tab-name displayed
with “>>tab-name<<” characters. In addition, this version
will automatically identify the changed ‘tabs’ that need to be
saved when the Save dialog box appears (user can
override this by unselect one or more checkboxes).

1. REVISION HISTORY
A summary of the fixes and features included in each release. This may not contain the full list of changes
for a release, at EM Microelectronics’ discretion.

1.1 SIMPLEBEACON EDITOR V1.2.0

Release Date: 2019-Oct-11

1.1.1 Summary
Two major enhancements for this release: added the ability to Import existing EMP files into the tool,
and automatically ‘check’ all of the configurations that have been modified, when the Save dialog
appears. Other minor changes as noted below.

1.1.2 Changes
 The user can now select an existing patch file (EMP) to import back into the tool and easily
view the contents. The configurations (GUI tabs) that differ are identified (note: individual
modified fields are not identified). If the user attempts to Import another EMP, the defaults
are restored prior to Importing the new EMP.
 When the Save dialog appears, all of the configurations that have changed are automatically
‘checked’. The user can ‘uncheck’ any of the configurations if they do not need to be saved at
that time.
 Add short-cut keys, ‘CTRL-I’ for Importing, and ‘CRTL-S’ for saving configurations.
 Two default values for the Device Config and one default value for the Accelerometer
configuration have been changed to match the firmware defaults.
 Change application title to SimpleBeacon from Beacon Editor. All references will use
SimpleBeacon.
 Updated the displayed text for the, Advert->USER1, fields with format information.
 Add message(s) to Status Bar, listing the name of the recently imported file or the actual
Saved filename (with CRC).
 Fix issue when saving to a path that contains a ‘.’, which would corrupt the both the path and
saved filename.
 When saving a patch, the title of the dialog box lists the names of the modified containers.
This required modifying the text so more names could appear.

1.1.3 Known Issues

None.

2. APPENDIX A - DEFAULT VALUES

The SimpleBeacon Editor’s default values that come with the release package are displayed below. For
more advanced users, the ‘hidden fields’ are also shown. Contact your FAE for information on how to
enable access to the ‘hidden fields’ for your custom configuration. Modifying ‘hidden fields’ may result in
unintended consequences includes making the device inaccessible for further updates or even prevent it
from transmitting (contact your FAE to verify the configuration you are proposing prior to loading it to your
device!).

In addition, there are certain fields that are not displayed but can be modified. The results of modifying hidden

before loading your patch (contact your FAE for guidance on modifying hidden values).
