CORPORATE HR CIRCULAR NO. 917 / 2021

Sub: Reimbursement of exam fee and expenditure for appearing in BOE exam – reg.

1.0 Boiler Operation Engineer (BOE) is a necessary and statutory requirement to operate Boilers
as per Boiler Act 1923. The BOE exam is conducted every year at central level by Ministry of
Commerce and Industry.

2.0 In order to encourage and enable NTPC executives to appear and qualify in BOE exam and
for building up a pool of competent BOE certified engineers in NTPC for operation of Boilers
in line with the statutory requirement, the following has been decided for the executives
eligible/qualifying the BOE exam:

2.1 Reimbursement of the examination fee and tour as per TA rules for appearing in the
exam/viva for the first attempt.
2.2 Second attempt tour may be allowed in case two papers out of three are cleared in first
attempt. Thereafter no such reimbursement/tour shall be allowed.
2.3 The above shall only be allowed to executives with more than 5 years of service left.
2.4 The list of candidates appearing for the exam shall be finalized by Head (O&M) of the
concerned station. The number of such executives shortlisted and applying for the
exam / successfully cleared the exam shall be shared with HR. The request for
necessary updation of the same in SAP records shall be raised by the concerned
executive (on successful completion of BOE) so that the database / pool of such
executives is tracked.

This issues with the approval of the Competent Authority.
