Daniela Hernandez – Journal Week #5

This week, I had the pleasure of accompanying individuals with Intellectual and

Developmental Disabilities (IDD) on various activities and events. One of the most memorable

outings I had the privilege of participating in was a trip to the Tubman Museum in Macon. The

purpose of this excursion was to expose the individuals to art, history, and culture while offering

them a chance to engage with their surroundings. It was truly heartwarming to witness their

genuine interest as they interacted with the artwork and commented their thoughts in the

museum. The trip to the Tubman Museum not only provided an enriching experience for the

individuals but also reinforced the importance of inclusive cultural opportunities for people with

IDD.

Recognizing the importance of promoting the Life Enrichment Center and sharing the

accomplishments of its participants, I took the initiative to create the first Instagram post

dedicated to the center. Through captivating photos, heartwarming stories, and engaging

captions, I aimed to showcase the center's mission and the incredible achievements of the

individuals it serves. This social media presence will serve as a platform to raise awareness,

challenge misconceptions, and celebrate the abilities and talents of individuals with IDD. It was

truly rewarding to witness the positive response and engagement from the online community, as

it demonstrated the power of storytelling and the impact of social media in fostering a more

inclusive society.

Excitingly, the Life Enrichment Center is now preparing for the grand opening of a

coffee truck this Friday ran by the center’s very own individuals! I am honored to have the

opportunity to broadcast the event live across Instagram, sharing the joy and excitement with a

broader audience. The opening of the coffee truck signifies not only a new venture for the center
but also an opportunity for the individuals to develop valuable skills in a real-world setting. By

broadcasting the event, we can create anticipation, generate interest, and showcase the talents

and contributions of the individuals involved.
