Daniela Hernandez – Journal Week #7

This week at the Life Enrichment Center, various activities took place for the individuals

of the center. One of the first activities that took place this week was a class that is meant to be

an introduction to various types of art. This class runs two times a month and the participants in

such class have retained the two art styles that me and another staff member have taught. It is

with pleasure that I say that they know about abstract art and realism. This week was also hectic

with planning for an event regarding Chinese culture, a 1950s themed event, and an event called

an “Urban Arts Village”. The Urban Arts Village is essentially going to be a farmer’s market-

fundraiser for the Life Enrichment Center where local vendors can come and sell their products

while giving the LEC a small fee for their costs. Additionally, LEC staff and individuals had to

participate in the coffee truck fundraiser as well. This is an event where each staff and individual

can come and participate in serving coffee for the people who come and buy it. It is a great way

for individuals to feel productive and for the LEC to get extra revenue. Furthermore, groups of

individuals also participated in the scheduled activities such as dance aerobics, the center’s

monthly newsletter, classes regarding digital literacy, music therapy drumming groups, choir

groups, and art therapy classes.

Some of our individuals in the digital literacy class are learning to use social media

platforms such as Instagram and Snapchat. It is great to see them connect more to their families

and the ever-changing world of technology. Additionally, one of our individuals sold multiple

paintings to an art gallery in Atlanta! Though this isn’t his first time selling a painting to an art

gallery, it is his first time selling multiple. As a result, we had a celebration for the individual and

all the individuals at the center gave him a card congratulating him on his accomplishments as an
artist. It was surreal to see his paintings selling at professional galleries for hundreds of dollars!

It is great to see the center bustling and the individuals to feel fulfilled.
