Chapter 12

I. Goals:
-Students will examine the political gains African Americans made following the Civil Rights
movements.
-Students will explore the African connection of the 1980s and 90s.
-Students will review the economic and social issues facing African Americans in the 1980s and
1990s.

II. Essential Questions:


-What were the political gains for African Americans?
-Who was Nelson Mandela and what did he do?
-What were the economic and social issues facing African Americans?

III. Unit Objectives:


-Students will know the political gains African Americans made.
-Students will know who Nelson Mandela is and what he has done for South Africa.
-Students will demonstrate knowledge of the social and economic issues facing African
Americans.
