Myomectomy is a surgical
procedure to remove
uterine fibroids also called
leiyomas. It is done for one
or small multiple fibroids
which are sub-mucosal and
are projecting into the
lumen of the uterus.
Usually, the fibroids are 2
to 3 cms in size

4. Secure informed consent from the patient. If unconscious, patient’s SO will be the one to
sign the informed consent.
5. Explain the procedure in a way the patient understands
6. Instruct patient to not eat the night before the surgery including medications and
supplements the patient take.
7. Assist in transportation of patient
8. Assist in maintaining privacy
9. Enact full precaution especially after patient is inducted with anesthesia.
Intra-operative
1. Assess and examine for airway, breathing, circulation, disability, and environment
2. Assess vital signs closely
3. Monitor blood loss
Post-operative
1. Monitor accurate intake and output of the patient
2. The nurse will have a strict compliance to hospital control, sterilization, and aseptic policies
to prevent occurrence of infection.
3. Continue intravenous fluids
4. Change of dressing if soaked early otherwise after 72 hours
5. Assess for pain
6. Dressings are assessed for fresh bleeding
7. Maintain patient’s privacy
8. Ensure patient safety and provide relaxing environment
9. Note for any signs of unusualities
