Grad Student Position –

Computer-aided drug design k lblab.org

A grad student position is available at the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry

at Philipps-Universität Marburg, Germany, in the newly established Emmy-Noether re-
search group of Dr. Peter Kolb. The topic of the Ph.D. thesis is in the field of computer-
aided structure-based ligand design.

Research Area
Research will focus on two main topics: Molecular library Protein

the entropy of a rotatable bond in a
molecule.
Multi- Ligands for
• Using docking to identify ligands of G- selective

protein coupled receptors (GPCRs).

Qualifications
The ideal candidate should hold a degree in a scientific field, preferentially chemistry,
chemoinformatics, biochemistry, bioinformatics, biophysics, physics, computer studies or
pharmacy. Routine using computers, preferentially with Linux as operating system, as
well as programming experience in C++ are desired. Excellent command of English, both
spoken and written, is a prerequisite.

Location
Philipps-Universität Marburg has a scientific tradition of almost five centuries and is
particularly strong in pharmaceutical and chemical sciences. The School of Pharmacy is
the largest in Germany with a faculty of fourteen and offers a unique combination of re-
search areas and methods. The Kolb lab is embedded within several other research groups
working on the biophysics of ligand binding and computational and synthetic approaches
(e.g., the labs of Profs. Klebe, Diederich and Bünemann). State-of-the-art equipment and
CPU power is available within the lab as well as within the University and the Hessian
computer network. Salary is according to the German TV-H pay scale (66% of level E13),
commensurate with experience and guaranteed for three years.

Application
The position is open immediately. To apply, please send a short letter of motivation
and a curriculum vitae, including a list of publications and the names of three ref-
erees, to Dr. Peter Kolb at applications@kolblab.org. For more information, visit
