Human beings are different in many things and this is evident when it comes to

decision-making and choices as different people will have varying choices which are

informed by their beliefs and values. According to Pritchard et al. (2019), these beliefs about

the nature of the world are referred to as worldviews. An individual’s worldview impacts the

individual’s ethical decisions making.

Taking Daily Medications

Worldviews also determine how people will react to certain situations. For instance,

being diagnosed with a mental health condition is devastating for any person. According to

Meyer et al. (2020), mental health issues are associated with significant stigma which may

adversely affect a patient. An individual’s worldview is an important factor in stigma towards

mental health issues. Having obsessive compulsive disorder may require an individual to take

medications for a long time and this may create a depressive situation due to the change in

routine lifestyle. While I do not have this condition, I believe I would struggle but reach a

point of acceptance and continue taking medications. Further, I may likely talk to other

people around me about it to make it easier for them to understand me.

Advance Care Planning Discussion

A neurological injury is a significant health and life-altering health issue that most

people will experience a dilemma when making decision about their life after the condition.

As noted by Van Veen et al. (2020) people have varying end-of life choices related to

neurological injury ranging from withdrawal of life saving machine to palliative therapy. I

would consider myself as pro-life and therefore I have a desire to always save life. However,

with nursing knowledge, I would not want to prolong life when suffering. When participating

in advanced nursing care planning related to my preferences about life-sustaining treatment, I

would make two critical choices. The initial treatment would be palliative care and eventual

withdrawal of life saving machines. While I would like to end suffering as early as possible,

it is imperative to ensure that I talk to my loved ones and at least spend time making plans for

those depending on me prior to the withdrawal of life supporting treatments. Further,

including family in my decision would be important as they will help strengthen my

capability to make the right choice, avoid unnecessary costs with no chance of recovery.

Complementary or Alternative Medicine Treatment

The person, as part of the nursing metaparadigms is composed of the soul, body, and

mind. When providing care especially for chronic conditions like cancer, it is important to

explore all these aspects. Complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) describes the

practices that are not part of standard medical care. According to National Institute of Health

[NIH] (2021), CAM may help individuals with chronic conditions like cancer cope with the

side effects, manage, and gain comfort. For an individual with conditions like cancer which

are characterized by declining health status and associated pain, some key therapies to

recommend would include meditation to quite the mind, yoga to enhance breathing and

strengths, and creative outlets to engage the mind (NIH, 2021). As an individual, exploring

CAM would be an alternative in the management of a chronic condition but this should be

combined with conventional medicine to improve outcomes.
