three key rights and responsibilities should be given to youngsters.


Overall, what stands out from the graph is that adolescents from these countries
exhibited variations in all three categories. Also of note is the highest figures were
always observed in Japanese youngsters.
Looking at the chart more closely, one can see that the minimum marriageable age
inspected ranged from 16 to 22. The biggest gap was between Japanese adolescents
and their Mexican and Egyptian counterparts. While participants in Japan felt that
youngsters at the age of 22 are entitled to get married, the figures in Mexico and Egypt
were only 16. It is also interesting that adolescents in the USA and UK shared similar
views of considering 18 as the suitable age for marriage.
In terms of rights to vote, respondents in the UK, Mexico and Egypt thought that it is
around 16 that adolescents have duty to vote. Meanwhile, the USA and Japanese ones
showed higher figures of 18 and 20, respectively.
As regards when it is appropriate for young people to be liable for their acts,
participants from the USA and Egypt took the view that 12 and 14-year-old adolescents
should assume responsibilities for their crimes, whereas there was a much higher age in
the UK with respondents referring to 20. At the same time, the UK and Mexican
participants hold the same opinions about age to be accountable for criminal acts of 15.
