The bar graph shows information about the percentage of top nine

majors in university for men and women in the UK in 2018.

Overall, what stands out from the graph is that IT was by far the most
common major for men, while business was more popular than the
other fields for women. Another interesting point is that the biggest
difference between the genders related to IT.

As regards the details, there were several of disciplines in which men


outnumbered women. Engineering was far more popular for men than
women, with figure of 14% and 2%. Similarly, a considerably higher
percentage of men than women studied in IT, the figure being 24% and
6% respectively. In terms of law, there was nearly equal for men and
women at 14% and 13%. The percentage of men who chose science was
slightly higher than that of women, with 9% and 8%.

By contrast, there were four fields which were more popular among
women. Spanish was considerably more common for women than men,
with 11% and 3%. In terms of English, twice as many women as men
studied in this field, with figures of 12% and 6%. Regarding music, it was
significantly more popular among women, at 14% as opposed to 3%. Far
more women than men chose business. The former proportion was
17%, while the latter was 10%. Finally, economics was equally popular
for men and women, at 9% each.
