Introduction Architects: INTRODUCTION
*Kenzo Tange
-4 September 1913 – 22 March 2005
-Was a Japanese architect, and winner of
the 1987 Pritzker Prize for architecture
-He was one of the most significant
architects of the 20th century, combining
traditional Japanese styles with
modernism, and designed major buildings
on five continents
-Attending high school in Hiroshima,
Tange discovered the works of Le
Corbusier in a foreign art journal and
subsequently decided to pursue a career
in architecture.
-Tange was admitted to study architecture
at the University of Tokyo in 1935.
Achievements & Awards
● Tange received the Gold medals of the RIBA(Royal Institute of British
Architects) and IAA (International Association of Architects) and French
Academy of Architecture for his activity as a architect and town planner in
1965.
● He also received the “Pritzker Architecture Award” for the Yoyogi Olympic
Stadiums.

Saying
-“Architecture is the creation of a special form of understanding of reality. It
works and transforms reality through the construction of an important object
of use. The object of this art form, on the other hand, has the dual quality of
serve as a mirror and enhance it.
This understanding of reality that takes place through the creation of the
architecture requires that the anatomy of it, as its substantial and spiritual
structure, be understood as a whole “Kenzo Tange.
-After experiencing their grandeur, trying to reach the sky, and their ineffably
mystical spaces, I began to imagine new spaces, and I wanted to create
them using modern technology.
